    Bono's greatest studio vocal performances

A couple B-sides worth considering: Salome ... His voice just dripping with lust and self-loathing ... really suits the song. Unchained Melody

    Pop themes

I love Pop, and I'm squarely in the "it's very cohesive" camp. It's major theme, I think, is "the absence of God." "A narrative about trying to fill a spiritual void through material hedonism." This states it perfectly. I could be overthinking it, but I've always thought the "her" of Wake Up...

Your favourite Edge "guitar hero" riff of this decade?

I'll throw in a vote for Glastonbury. If they absolutely must do straight up rock, I'd rather it sounded like this than any of the others in the list.

Rank Your Favorite Songs on the Album Part 1: Zooropa

    Worst Song U2 has written?

Peace on Earth ... Insipid, boring backing track. Clunky (if heartfelt) lyrics. Ground they'd already covered much better elsewhere - including with two vastly superior songs on Pop (Please, Wake Up Dead Man).

More New Music Rumors and Such...

I think that as Bono has gotten older his lyrics have gotten both better and worse. When they're bad they're really bad. When they're good they're fucking great. In general, he's totally underrated as a lyricist, even here on Interference. Take "Glastonbury." Sorry, but that's a damn fine...

    Has U2 Peaked?

What you say is true, and I freely admit I'm venting based on personal taste. It just seems like something's different this time around. I mean, here we are on the third leg of the current tour and the setlist is almost exactly the same as on the first two legs. It smells like "product" instead...

    Has U2 Peaked?

Does the current leg of the tour feel like it's all about NLOTH to you? Are the casual fans (who they're apparantly so eager to please) going to run out and buy their very own copy of NLOTH based on what they hear on the current leg of the tour? At their peak, a much more pugnacious U2 would...

    Has U2 Peaked?

No, you're right. I admit I was drunk and frustrated when I made my post. Politics has always been part of their thing, and truthfully I'm good with that. I just feel like there is a notable lack of imagination in what they're currently doing. To me it seems like they're playing things way too...

    Has U2 Peaked?

Also agree. I mean, technically they already toured NLOTH. Am I wrong or is the first time they've been touring for touring's sake? If so, then why not have a setlist that's nothing but balls out rockers, with no speeches by Bishop Tutu or Bono or anyone else, and just see how it goes over? Or...

Yay or Nay on North Star

    Agree.
  17. Q

After a year...what do you think about NLOTH?

I feel about NLOTH pretty much exactly as I did after my first several listens. I still think the first four songs comprise one of the greatest twenty minute stretches of music in their career. I sometimes almost like Crazy, but more often than not I sort of hate it. It's too ... sappy for my...

Top Ten Lyrics for a U2 Song(excluding One)

No particular order ... Dirty Day - Should be in the top five of everybody and anybody, in my opinion. Bono is not often this poetic while at the same time being so economical and clear in his meaning. I mean, I get why some people would say something like "A Sort of Homecoming," but a lot of...

I agree with the writer of the article that I Threw A Brick Through A Window is the best track on October.

    Unknown Caller appreciation thread

It's not only my favorite on the album, it's one of my favorite U2 songs ever. It just has that certain something that's found in their best songs like Bad and Streets -- the contrast between the despair and the hope. In six minutes it epitomizes their whole career.

Official Interference reviews (out of 5 stars)

No album is absolutely perfect. After 12 to 15 listens of NLOTH (some while listening intently in headphones, some while it was playing in the background while I did other shit, some where I listened to the songs in a different order) I feel quite comfortable giving it a 5/5. I think it stands...
