    Almost Finished with U2

What would sway it back for me is a record of genuine passion. Their output seems so half baked at this point. Perhaps they're just not following their passion at the moment.

    Almost Finished with U2

Yes, that's right, I'm almost done with U2. They look to me as though they can't be bothered anymore. It used to be all killer and no filler but since (to my mind) HTDAAB it's just gone downhill fast. Pointless anniversary tours to songs I don't listen to the end of. And now Bono saying he's...

Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

To my mind the problem with U2 is that the music is just not consistently good anymore, culminating in SOE which to my ear didn't have a good song on it. Tours like the 2017 and 2019 Joshua Tree outing haven't helped their cause, it's just too much of a backwards step.

U2 Still has a great album in them

U2 certainly have another great LP in them. In my view there's been a steady decline in quality control since HTDAAB with more and more filler appearing on each album culminating in disinterest from the first listen of a new release. The anniversary tours in hindsight only affect a group like U2...

    Reflecting on Year post-2000 albums

U2 albums post 2000 have been patchy affairs. If I took the best songs from each record, it would make a great double LP. but to my mind quality control has taken a walk off the map.

A must read article: An Open Letter To U2: What Happened To Your Relevance?

I agree with this article, although I would place their relevance up to ATYCLB. All following albums have been patchy at best and if the poor songs were removed you'd end up with at best a decent double LP. From a live point of view, 360 at the moment was the height and it seems to have gone...

When I Look at the World - e-stage

It's a great song but I hold out no hope that it will EVER get a live outing. They have so many good songs but never play them live.

    The Troubles

Maybe subconsciously I've not got tickets for this tour, despite them being so expensive, is because the setlist retains so many warhorses I've heard on other tours.

    The Troubles

They still haven't played The Troubles.

    The Troubles

I think it's safe to say The Troubles and Miracle Drug have been permanently dropped.

    The Troubles

It would be a good closer, it can be far more dramatic than Moment Of Surrender was on 360 that was as flat as a pancake.

Has The Troubles had it's day and been dropped already?

Give us your rating of the album:

The Miracle, Every Breaking Wave, California, Song For Someone, Iris, Raised By Wolves and The Troubles are the best tunes on the LP. The rest are B sides.

Songs of Innocence - Album Discussion

The Miracle, Every Breaking Wave, California, Iris, Raised By Wolves and The Troubles are pretty good. The rest seems a bit too throwaway to at the moment. This may change.

Margaret Thatcher and the new conservatism (from 1975)

Does it mention her admiration for dictator General Pinochet? A vile evil woman who divided the UK and turned people against each other with her free marketeering policies.

    So, we're fucked, right?

The USA will collapse, it's merely a question of when, not if. If the capitalist state the USA has created will not destroy it, it's dependance on a finite resourse (oil) will. And that looks to run out around 2035 at the human races current rate of consumption.

Do you think the band is sick of Moment Of Surrender?

I'd rather hear Stand Up Comedy than Moment Of Surrender as the closer. When I saw them at Wembley in 2009, it left the place in a down mood after MOS.

Do you think the band is sick of Moment Of Surrender?

No way is Moment Of Surrender a closing song.

IMF Head Dominique Strauss Kahn held on attempted rape charges

This is hardly a surprise, he's a very powerful person with many connections plus dealing here with a totally corrupt organisation as the IMF which has destroyed many many countries. Portugal and Ireland are next on their list.
