***SURVIVOR: Natural selection in action (HTDAAB - Rd 10)

Everything's overrated and simultaneously underrated. I vote City. Sometimes is a great tune, regardless of the lyrics. With them it's brilliant.

    Your opinion of HTDAAB now

You forgot Love And Peace Or Else.

    Most Overrated Song

I used to think Streets was a bit overrated, but it's amazing on the Rattle & Hum DVD. I don't think it's power gets over quite as much on the studio version. I don't think many U2 songs are overrated, all the ones people say are brilliant usually are in the right context. Maybe The Fly, I...

SURVIVOR: All Because of the Tor-toi-se (HTDAAB - Rd 8)

Next round will be tough, but I really can't agree with those that think Sometimes is overrated. It is epic, passionate and a damn fine tune. Next round for me will probably be Original, but I love all the songs left.

Miracle Drug...the best song on HTDAAB.

It's a great song, though it only comes into it's own later on, when Edge's guitar really soars. I can imagine this being amazing live. Possibly my favourite on the album, but depends on my mood. It's best when it starts trailing off at 2:30, and Edge's solo.

Besides, you must have some taste to like U2 in the first place...

    What's up w/ ABOY?

Ok, fair points. But personally I don't think ABOY is just a rock song for the sake of it, I think it is a really good rock song. I just love the riff and the solo, the chorus is all that lets it down. Maybe the album could do without it, but personally I'm glad it's there.

    Your Favourite member of u2

The Edge, for sure. The coolest guitarist around.

    ABOY rocks

Is it worth comparing them? Some of the music U2 made in the 80's is absolute killer, the best of the decade. The first 2/3rds of the 1980-1990 Best Of is flawless in terms of individual songs. I don't think it's really worth dwelling on whether anything on their latest is "better" than U2...

Besides U2 what other Christian stuff u listen to?

I'm not big on Christian bands, but Delirious have always been solid, and I was most impressed with their latest album. I don't usually listen to any other non-worship Christian music, though I've heard a little of Vertical Horizon and like them.

Old Topic.... But if only one song....

At this moment, New Year's Day.

    Fave non-single album tracks...

I don't know which ones were singles and which weren't :/. But I'll have a shot (only have a few albums though): Boy - Stories for Boys War - Like A Song or Drowning Man ATYCLB - In A Little While HTDAAB - A Man and a Woman Also: Exit The Unforgettable Fire

    Your HTDAAB Epiphanies

The best "growers" for me have been Miracle Drug and City of Blinding Lights. Not because they ever sounded bad, but took many listens to appreciate. COBL especially, I think it's the best on the album. It's got a certain mystery about it, unlike most of the songs. It reminds me of so many U2...

SURVIVOR: All Because of the Tor-toi-se (HTDAAB - Rd 8)

Vertigo, easily. It's the only song on there you can really listen to in one way - as a good, raw rock song. Original of the Species doesn't deserve the kind of treatment it's getting, and as good as Sometimes is I don't think I could listen to it forever. City of Blinding Lights is the best on...

    Adam Clayton's best album

It's sometimes hard to appreciate bassists and drummers in bands, but the more you listen to particular bands and particular songs the more you notice the intricate details. I used to think, especially after watching the Rattle & Hum DVD that Adam played it pretty easy - just a basic bassline...

    What's up w/ ABOY?

Those who think ABOY is filler - I'd like them to try and listen to the album without it. Apart from Vertigo it's the only fast, rocking song, and the album really needs it. As great as the album is it would be missing something without this song a lot more than it would without, say, Original...

    Favorite line from HTDAAB

"Some things you shouldn’t get too good at Like smiling, crying and celebrity Some people got way too much confidence baby" It's a humble moment on the album, and I love the way he says it to this phantom "baby" that appears on many tracks. Definately my favourite line, but there are many great...

    Your opinion of HTDAAB now

I've only had this album since Christmas Day, so it's hard to give a definitive verdict. But I've gone to sleep to the album every night since, and I can't help but like it. I sometimes feel I shouldn't - be it another vague lyric, another predictable Edge harmonic or whatever - but I do. I'm...

Songs that have made you cry . . .

No songs really make me cry, though many touch me or make me feel sad. U2 have a fair number. I was watching the Rattle & Hum DVD yesterday when the Sunday Bloody Sunday version came on, with Bono's emotive speech. The whole song really touched me, I can't describe in what way, it was just how...

    How original was Boy?

There is only one band I can say are similar to U2, though many may not have heard of them. They are a Christian band called Delirious. I often see them as the Christian version of U2 (even though 3/4 of U2 are Christians anyway, I think). They're singer has a unique voice that doesn't exactly...

MERGED-->All That You Can't Leave Behind IS U2's Third Masterpiece. + ATYCLB: 2000

Hi, I'm new to this forum, their latest album has rekindled (is that a word?) my love for U2 though, and I really felt like discussing it (and the band) with other people. This is the first music forum I've ever signed up to. I don't have much to say that hasn't been covered in this thread, but...

All Because of You = Oasis inspired?

Bono thanks Noel Galagher for "One Step Closer" according to the album sleeve, so there's obviously some connection between the two bands. Now that I think about it All Because of You is a little like Morning Glory (probably my favourite Oasis song).
