    TICKET DROPS Thread II

I can't speak for day of show, but I found a random $48 single on Monday night for tomorrow. Certainly it seems like some were held back.

It's from the venue itself, not resellers.

Finally we have an album: SONGS OF INNOCENCE!! DISCUSSION THREAD ONLY

This is gonna be a weird comparison, but it reminds me a lot of Beastie Boys "To the 5 Boroughs" album. I believe they had a 6 year gap in between albums, and when they returned, it was a relatively simple, beat oriented personal album, instead of a bunch of "hit singles" like you figured a...

Invisible - Reactions Thread (Do not post song requests - Discussion only!)

I agree, actually. You are right. I think they just used it wrong. When I heard the preview, I thought "Man, this is gonna be anthem!". And then they just those lyrics on the outro. They aren't even the chorus. There is no chorus, actually.

Invisible - Reactions Thread (Do not post song requests - Discussion only!)

It's interesting to hear their new sound....light & airy. It makes me hope the album sounds more casual, & not "we've worked these songs to death", which is what I got from the last two. That being said, it's a thumbs down from me. Sounds like it could be off of Coldplay's last album. It...

Should we be worried about decreasing record sales?

I would say I'm not worried at all. Bono probably wipes his ass with $50 bills, so, they'll be ok. I don't think you can blame the recession too much on album sales..Cheap entertainment isn't hurt too much (the U.S. film box office is up $200 million versus this point last year) by a...

    NLOTH Week 2

I would say 55%-60% is a normal depreciation for a "big" release. The larger the sales figure is the opening week, the more likely it is to have a larger depreciation the next week. That's why I find such a large drop off for NLOTH so concerning. I hope I'm wrong. I hope it has a more...

    NLOTH Week 2

I can't argue with these sales figures, but then again, I never tried to. I think I asked what the difference was in access to illegal downloads was today vs. 2004. I'm not sure why you posted sales figures from 2000. And seriously, your argument wasa lot of people in the USA didn't have the...

    NLOTH Week 2

I think you're missing my point. I'm not arguing total units sold AT ALL. So we can throw every argument about that out the window. Percentage drops from Week 1 to Week 2, generally, have stayed the same from now and 8 years ago, 4 years ago, etc...55-60% fall off. It's indicative of how the...

    NLOTH Week 2

Yes, because Bomb came out during the week of "Black Friday". It's such a ridiculously inflated sales week, that a large drop off is to be expected. Dropping 75% from a normal, everyday week in March is alarming.
  11. Clean187

    NLOTH Week 2

Ok, now I see what you're saying. It very well could stabilize. It certainly won't drop another 75%. But I think you can already start talking about patterns, because, in a lot of ways, the second week of sales is more telling than the first. It shows word of mouth, interest that the more...

    NLOTH Week 2

I'm not sure understand your point 100%. What does the 3 albums in the same week selling over 100,000 have anything to do with what we're discussing? If you look at how albums sell, even in today's climate, a 75% drop is an EXTRAORDINARILY high figure. It wouldn't matter if it sold 1 millon...

    NLOTH Week 2

Wow, not even looking at the total sales, just that drop off percentage is very concerning...no really good way to spin that into any sort of positive. I think the economy is sort of a weak excuse, though. I mean, if people REALLY wanted it, it was on Amazon for 4 bucks for a week. And...

    NLOTH. Week 1

I think it isn't the overall decline of the music industry that hurt their numbers, it was just the poor lead single. I have no doubts it you put Magnificant in an I-Pod commercial, and released it right around Thanksgiving, this album would've done virtually the same opening weekend numbers...

    NLOTH. Week 1

DoctorWho, When I said "Dinosaurs", I didn't mean as in, these guys are so old, they don't have it anymore. The best comparison I can make is, right before ATYCLB came out, people thought the popularity and relevance of the band might be waning. Perhaps similar to the decline in relevance that...

    NLOTH. Week 1

ATYCLB was release on Halloween in the USA....too early to attribute opening weekend numbers to the holidays. They weren't established as the "biggest band in the world" then. A lot of people viewed them to be Dinosaurs, and they certainly weren't as big in 2000 as they are in 2009. Regardless...

    NLOTH. Week 1

I'm eager to see the official final sales figures from Billboard, but just a shade under 480,000 is a good number. The marketing efforts really paid off. If it would've done less than what ATYCLB did in it's first week, it would've been a disaster. But, with such a weak lead single, they have...

Letterman's audience - filled with paid "fans"?

I interned at Late Night a few years ago. Trust me, they don't care one bit what the reaction is to guests. They want you be in to "Dave" and the bits, and the Late Show band. They're not the least bit worried about creating hoopla for the guests. That is their job.

Spingsteen album a canary in the coal mine?

Hey, did anybody ever find the sales of AC/DC's album a little fishy? "Black Ice" did 750K in it's first week. "NLOTH" is going to do 450K tops it's first week. AC/DC's top opening week before Black Ice was something like 225K. It's not like they had a huge hit single or an IPOD ad or...

    NLOTH. Week 1

They are really accurate at predicting. They take big media blitzes into account. If they say between 400-450, it will hit that....

    NLOTH. Week 1

It's gonna do about half of what Bomb did it's first week, but, I guess that's to be expected. It's not Q4...hell, bomb came out "Black Friday" week. Even Kanye West and other big artists have done 400-500K their first week, so I suppose it's not surprising...even though "Boots" isn't setting...

    NLOTH. Week 1

According to Hits Daily Double.Com, looks like it's going to do between 400-450K it's first week in the U.S. A slight dissappointment, but, that's what you get when "Boots" is your lead single.

    Letterman - Breathe Performance (3/2/09)

I'm sure they won't play the same song 5 nights in a row. After the Grammy debacle they called a "performance", this was a nice way to come back strong. Great job guys.

U2: Letterman's House Band for a FULL WEEK

I went to Letterman about 7 years ago, with guests Richad Simmons & Giselle Bundcen. Richard Simmons dressed as a giant turkey (it was right before Thanksgiving), made a big fuss. When he tried to hug Letterman (who has a bad neck, and every guest is instructed not to touch him), Letterman...
