Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

Oh my God, this post made me feel a million years old. I knew rock was dead, but wow. I died inside realizing that the only time a young person listens to Oasis is “Wonderwall” and ironically and that there’s a generation of kids who don’t even know the Who as the CSI theme song guys. If there’s...

    ATYCLB 20th Anniversary Box Set

That sort of thing is done on reissues all the time. U2 themselves did it with the 1996 version of "Tomorrow," which only had Bono and Adam, and the awful Sun City version of "Silver and Gold" and the "Can't Help Falling in Love" remix, which only involved Bono. If I suggest it on the internet...

    ATYCLB 20th Anniversary Box Set

Well, plenty of room for it too. Who releases a bonus disc for a 20-year-old album with only 10 tracks on it.

    ATYCLB 20th Anniversary Box Set

Should've thrown "Falling at Your Feet" on there as well and made the MDH soundtrack completely redundant.

    Hypothetical U2 MTV unplugged

Kind of the opposite of R.E.M., who did their two Unplugged sessions at basically the perfect times in their career, 1991 and 2001. I think the early 2000s revival would've been the most ideal time for U2 to do their own (that's also around the time Bono did a couple of songs with the Corrs for...

U2 Still has a great album in them

"Rocky Ground" was with some nobody, though, so it played off more like an old rock star trying new things than begging for relevancy by getting whoever is popular on the track. But it's all subjective, and as I said, rap by itself isn't the problem (much as I would prefer if rock bands on the...

U2 Still has a great album in them

That's an interesting quote, but I think there's a big difference between what Springsteen was trying to accomplish (trying his hardest to make a killer and culturally relevant rock album on his own terms) and what U2 has been doing (working with a revolving door of trendy producers, having...

    Reflecting on Year post-2000 albums

Springsteen's late-career resurgence has been rolling since 2002, which is longer than his initial period of success before his nineties slump! Yeah, maybe whatever he's doing, U2 should emulate. Fewer than twenty billion producers per album might be a good start.

    A quick thought on NLOTH

I actually really like the two remixes on Artificial Horizon. The Justice Mix is slick and fun, the Fish Out of Water Mix is weirdly ominous, and both mixes cut some of the fat out of the song.

    Make the worst setlist possible

They also do "The Unforgettable Fire," "Gloria," and "One Tree Hill," but they're inexplicably cut from the official release of the show.

    Make the worst setlist possible

Nothing but hip hop collaborations and Jacknife Lee remixes. The audience will be begging for "Elvis Ate America."

The Beatles: Album versions versus anthology versions of songs.

I like the versions of "Yes It Is" and "It's Only Love" on Anthology 2. They're probably John's worst songs with the Beatles, but they're kind of charming in those early forms. 2 also has that great, lush version of "Across the Universe."

I made an Oasis Ripoffography. It's a tribute to Noel Gallagher's fine taste.

Thom Yorke calls music industry "retards"

No one said it was anything, so I had to infer something from all the praise in this thread. What is it then that makes this comment special?

Thom Yorke calls music industry "retards"

The music industry is an easy target. There are entire albums dedicated to bashing it. There's nothing particularly daring or insightful about calling it fucked. It's like calling politicians corrupt.
