Yes, I'm not over the moon by the list of songs, but am suitably impressed by some big, rather bold decisions.

And the revival of something as forgotten and pedestrian as All Because of You, surely puts a bit of hope out there that they could re-introduce a song that seemed destined to be contained to it's corresponding album tour. It may not be too unreasonable to hope that something like a New York or a Breathe could be revived at some show somewhere at some point.

Yeah, it shows a confidence in their showman abilities to dictate to the crowd in that manner. That's what U2 live has always been about - a case of concert goers going with the band rather than the other way around where the band is going with what the fans want (*cough* Coldplay *cough*)

The one thing that surprises me after seeing a performance of Wild Horses on youtube is figuring out why it was so hard for the band to nail down live. When I listen to it on the album I always thought it was the most conventional and easy to play song for them from that era but not so, until now that is. It's not my favourite song from that album but it has an excellent hook that casuals and hardcores can enjoy. Probably their most mainstream song from that era.

edit: And I just watched their performance of All Because Of You. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and in fairness it comes more naturally to them than a half baked ancient snip like Out Of Control or I Will Follow which I've never really felt added much to their concerts these days.

ABOY was way better than I expected. Bono clearly enjoyed it, and they had energy. He looked younger again bouncing aroubd

It was nice to see ABOY revisited without Bono's stupid fucking haircut from Vertigo as a distraction.

No joke. I can't believe they rehearsed a full band HMTMKMKM only to do this shit. It would be as good a second set opener as you could get, really.

I also hope The Fly finds its way out of rehearsals and into the setlist. It'd be another good choice for the second set.

New York and Breathe reside in the same category as ABOY - or, indeed, a worse one in the case of Breathe - so I'm not sure what your point is here. Like, woo, let's revive songs barely anyone gives a fuck about, rather than something a bit obscure but genuinely fantastic like Wire or Do You Feel Loved or Lady With the Spinning Head or Twilight or whatever.

His point is that a lot of people like Breathe and think it is a fantastic live tune, even if you do not. Lots of people care about that song and would love to see it appear in the live set. In the 360 concerts that I intended, Breathe soared and the crowd, even the many "casual" fans, loved it. You're letting your own very obvious bias get in the way here.

Have they ever played Heartland and God part 2? Really bummed Landlady and The Showman aren't in the set

I keep saying it because I believe it:
Drop SFS and play Landlady
The Showman sandwiched between a *live* HMTMKMKM and Vertigo

This is a bit off topic, but I always wondered why they didn't play any songs from NLOTH since 2010? They've played songs from HTDAAB, but are they ashamed on how much of a flop was NLOTH?

lol. i'm not usually that enthusiastic however...

Heartland would be an absolute MONSTER live... I also think Promenade and WILATW would be a dream to hear. Also, I didn't miss Streets as much as I thought Iwould.

I wonder if none of the songs from NLOTH just doesn't fit the narrative of the i+e show. Although MOS you could argue might fit into the experience part of one's redemption of finally finding your way back home from "how far you gonna go before you lose yo your way back home." Just a thought.....

Another after first show thought..... Not actually playing HMTMKMKM is just plain awful, that is just awesome live. I think that would be my only squawk .

Any suggestions on where to stand for GA?

Stand in the place where you live.

Then face north.

Based on IE experience (har har): Rail between GA and Red Zone, about halfway down the ramp is good. Or just halfway down the ramp. If you get too close, you miss a lot of the screen stuff. And if you're too close to either of the two stages, you miss other stuff. So, depends on if you want to see the band members' nostrils or more of the whole show.

I always found just off the inside of the e stage to be a great spot. It's a little less crowded down by the e stage, and it gives you more room to move around.

edit: by inside I mean where the e stage and ramp meet

I stood there in 2015, and I agree, perfect spot. And I didn’t get there until about 15 minutes before the band took the stage, and was about 3 deep from the e stage. Great experience. LOVE what they’re doing with this stage.

Interesting, I thought it got a lot more crowded around the e stage.

Can you see the screen well from there?

Heartland never.

God Pt 2 was played a fair bit on the Lovetown tour.

Much as I love God Pt2 and wish I could have seen a performance back in '89, I can't ever see them playing it again due to the now long dated topical nature of some of the lyrics (Lennon/Goldman book).

I can't see Heartland being a big crowd pleaser. Maybe as a future one-off acoustic B-stage throw-away at best.

That's not the point I'm trying to make though. I actually probably dislike All Because Of You more than most U2 fans. I don't really rate HTDAAB, and it's probably my least favourable song from the album.

There'd be a lot of people not particularly clamouring to see Wire live, me included, though I would certainly be pretty ecstatic that they plucked it out from the wilderness and whacked it in a set out of the blue.

It gives us hope that the forgotten songs that we may personally have a penchant for, may actually be revived.
