Made the mistake of looking for more rehearsal spoilers, and now I'm starting to get angry. Like unexpected songs but ones that are getting performed acoustically, omissions from the new album...

I just need to stay away.

I think the rehearsal list so far is totally uninspiring. There are six days left for songs to be added and there's no telling how many of the already-rehearsed songs will be performed, but this list is my worst case scenario outside of a handful of curve balls.

And I can't post any complaints in The Other Place without being attacked by Interference crusaders, who would expect this to be U2's greatest tour even if it was rotating sets of acoustic Song For Someone and In a Little While.

They're just picking some baffling rarities. It would be cool to hear One Step Closer, Playboy Mansion or Trying To Throw Your Arms Around the World but why pick them instead of In God's Country, Gone, Dirty Day, Exit...?

I'm 100% on board with One Step Closer, but had hope for way more in the way of rarities or deep cuts. Maybe I forgot which band it was

:bono: So, what do our fans want to hear the most?

:edge: Seems here it says they've voted for A Sort Of Homecoming, Acrobat, Gone, One Tree Hill, Exit, Please, Lemon...

:bono: OK, so shall we rehearse Miracle Drug and The Hands That Built America?

:bono: We could neuter The Fly, make it a bland acoustic arrangement

:larry: Brilliant, another break for me

:adam: Look a butterfly!

:applaud:

only thing that could have improved this was if Adam said "look a beach ball"

Is anyone else actually looking forward to some of these acoustic versions?

I mean, yes I will not sit here and argue that The Fly isn't better in full band/electric form, that would be ridiculous but I've heard it for Zoo TV and for Elevation and Vertigo and 360. A different approach does not bother me at this moment...

If they are going to trot out Stay, or Desire or IALW then yes, I can do without those but I am more than happy to hear something different. It surprises me how quickly people shit all over it.

Honestly I don't think U2 does acoustic very well. Some bands do, they really just don't, so I'd prefer them to avoid it altogether. But if they are going to do it, some fresh meat makes it a bit more interesting, but why does it have to be one of their best electric songs like The Fly (or God forbid the live debut of Acrobat)?

I'm sure somebody is.

Why The Fly though? There's no shortage of U2 songs that would sound better that way. In fact, almost any. Pick a different song, something rare, and have Edge work out the chords or something. If Bono can read lyrics off a sheet of paper and everyone has fun, who gives a fuck? Just don't take a great song that already gets a ton of play and make it worse.

I just did something stupid and bought tickets for their final NYC show. So I should be going for two pairs of nights: July 22-23 and 30-31. At least there's some potential for setlist diversity there.

I think that final pair will definitely have some diversity. If they hold true to form the latter part of the leg (specifically Boston and NYC) should see some rarer tunes. Both cities have gotten that treatment historically and the band will have 2 months under its belt and be comfortable enough to shake things up a little.

Yeah, this. I really don't want to be negative towards practically everything they're rehearsing, because this is normally an exciting time. Barcelona 2009 and Turin 2010, both well after I turned into a cynical jaded fan, were fun and exciting. But this? It's like U2 are making the most underwhelming selections possible while ignoring the good ideas. If they must have an acoustic set, there are so many songs that would both fit well and meet with much more excitement than a neutered Fly or a song nobody cares for like Hands That Built America. In God's Country worked well acoustically at a handful of late Elevation shows. Promenade would be a big curveball to excite hardcore fans. Kite, Wild Horses, A Sort of Homecoming, they would all go down a treat even acoustically.

I'm looking forward to the tour starting and that we may actually get a fair degree of diversity, but so far I've seen little to get me really excited - I guess that's good, given I'm on the other side of the world from the tour, but these rehearsals haven't stoked a desire to jump on a plane.

That was what led me to buy the ticket in the end. I remember being very jealous at the setlist variety in some of those long runs in the same city during the Vertigo Tour (whereas in Europe, where I lived at the time, we got Vertigo x4 in back-to-back nights).

I would have died laughing if dabiggestu2fan had gotten his revenge for Kunstmuseum tonight by reporting a bunch of obviously fake shit from the rehearsal. No one got angrier over it than he did.

Haha yeah, I'd be warier if we hadn't had independent confirmation on Twitter that a dress rehearsal is happening (though he's the only one I've seen so far with the setlist).

Angel of Harlem sounded fucking good on Fallon.

BD, not so much. Not one of Bono's better vocal performances. Edge really turned up the octave pedal for it and that sounded kind of cool.

There are some cool sounding stretches in that setlist but a few uninspiring choices indeed. It is incomplete as well of course.

I just hope I don't get the worst setlist of the tour this time around. Last tour I went to a third leg show so I got Stingray-BD, North Star, Mercy, In A Little While...

On 360, out of 110 shows, I managed to get the best setlist. There was not a show I would have enjoyed more. My Vertigo show wasn't quite as good, but at least they played Gloria.

This time, I fully expect SOI + U218.

Holy shit that Fallon version of Angel of Harlem with The Roots was fantastic. Best version I've ever heard of that song. Loved the new electric solo.
