We will know in 20 days.

This place is going to explode regardless

^ True, these are great times to be a fan.
Waking up every day and opening Interference whilst you have breakfast, waiting for the next snippet of news

You would do that for the 2nd or 3rd single for an album, but not for the lead single.

You wouldn't do that with album singles at all.

And you would likely mention the words "lead single" in your announcement. Unless you're giving your song out for RED and the single will be out later in the rather massive promo op aka Super Bowl ad. (eta also, why put out the single in mid/late January but wait all the way until June for album?)

June is the new Spring...so Edge and Bono confirm they're not done yet. Throwing out OL and now Invisible sure put them back in the schedule.

Chris Martin helped out with OL ? That would explain the Coldplay comparisons...

These threads are turning into group therapy sessions  FWIW I don't buy June for a second. It'll either be sooner or later. My guess is later. OL/Invisible are songs that they released to remind folks that U2 still exist. By the time June swings by, they'll waltz off to the south of France like always, and this place will descend into another meltdown (Bono lies etc etc). Album will be announced in August. Good ol' predictable U2, eh?

Like clockwork.

I'm only shocked you took so long.

There are now rumors out there that the Super Bowl is being delayed due to some technical problems that the new Beats streaming service is experiencing.

Rogergoodell today announced that the Superbowl will now be played in June. When asked why, the commish simply said "causebonosaidso."

The LA Times article which gave album details and had statements from the band said that Invisible would be on the album.

And Rolling Stone reported that "Every Breaking Wave" would be the first single from "Songs of Ascent." This happens all the time.

I'm not saying the LA Times is wrong... but time will tell. This is that crazy pre-announcement phase when it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish between fact, fiction, and rumor.

Just be excited for now that they are willing to think so highly of "invisible" that it's worth the Super Bowl spot. In that article Bono was playing air guitar and singing along with it. They must love the song. I would take another top 10 U2 song over an album of shit I wouldn't listen to any day of the week.

This in willing to go along with.

The album will either be dropped on us soon, announced or maybe even released on February 2nd...

OR they've really fucked shit up and we won't see the album for a while.

Based on band appearance, media hype, and basic common sense... I lean towards the sooner than later argument.

But it is U2, and anything is possible.

“We got something amazing planned. We can’t really tell you much about it.”
-The Edge

Figure it out yourselves, people. It's not that hard.

Yeah, seriously. I mean, could Bono have been serious and June is the date? Of course. But I just can't believe (actually I can) the way people react around here, just ignoring simple logic and running with every little tidbit they're given.

As far as I see it, we have 4 potential release dates:

- Feb 2nd (surprise release)
- March/April
- June

Which one above makes the least amount of sense? Since when are we taking what Bono tells the media at face value? The last time I made that mistake, I expected "Songs Of Ascent" in late 2009.

"Something amazing" would be an unexpected album drop, or at the very least announcement.

An ad for RED during the super bowl isn't in and of it's self "amazing."

So either the edge is taking a cue from the Bono school or hyperbole, or something amazing is going to happen very shortly.

Even if the album will not be released until June (which is just an assumption really, as no one has been informed of anything of the sort in any formal setting), I'm sure the band will be releasing more new music before then besides "Invisible".

They are not stupid.

The possibility that the Superbowl ad will be for charity makes me believe in this band a bit more.

The Golden Globe win is all the U2 news today. no one is talking about Invisible.

I still think the fact that they reacted so quickly with info about the song after the Hangar clips were leaked was deliberate deflection. Now, Ordinary Love back in the spotlight.

as for June, I dunno wtf Bono is going on about :D

so, I guess I'm still in the "album sooooooon" camp. hope I'm not wrong.

It's kindof odd that out of all the old heads at mags, radio stations and the like that typically get this sort of news and comment straight from Bono in advance of the rest of the world...that out of all these people, the only person who has been given somewhat of a date is Roger Friedman. Just a bit strange when every other band member has been very non-committal when everyone else asks...

Exactly.

They say nothing for months, and then word of the super bowl commercial shoot gets out, and all if a sudden they can't shut up with all sorts of non denial denials?

Friedman was the first to tell us Spring 2014 too..

Sounds like Bono made an unauthorised drunken admission at the awards party. Perhaps he didn't realise he was chatting to a journalist.

It will be interesting to see how it’s for charity. We know they have a corporate partner, which is how RED works, so a share of a purchase of something is the deal and U2 are pushing both their song and the ‘thing’, but both not necessarily related. U2’s song off some existing service is obvious but really not enough for the investment. So it’s an ad for something else that’s gone ‘RED’ and U2 are just the sizzle, but there's no direct relation or action relating to U2 (apart from New Single Out Now and it also being a 'RED' product), or perhaps it does make sense that it is the new Beats Music Service, and (if they have both subscription and download) could be something along the lines of (a) sign up to Beats and X% of the first 6mths of your monthly subscription will go to RED and (b) we’ll throw in a free download of the new U2 single. So Beats launch in a highly visible way and with a charity attached for feel good, U2 get their song in front of the Super Bowl audience with a charity attached for a buffer, and U2 also get to force their new song on a demographic that doesn’t care for them. I suppose it works?

It Invisible is for (RED) and the Super Bowl advert costs $4 million, how much money do they think they'll raise from the single, bearing in mind it'll likely be an MP3 release and easy to grab for free? That outlay seems a bit excessive to me for charity promotion.

Maybe they're bundling other goodies with it too, perhaps discounts on (RED) products.

I think the band and management would be stupid to waist the tension and attention that has been built up within the last weeks. If the new management is smart enough, they will just keep the boat afloat. The (RED)/Super Bowl/Music Beats scenario for Invisible sounds very plausible and it will keep the industry talking for a while.

Doesn't work that way. They have a corporate partner, so there's also whatever product they're flogging to make it 'worth it'. The actual pool is Company Profit + U2 Profit, and then there's a RED % of presumably both in there.
