Lollapalooza 2013

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I love their album. No interest seeing them at a festival, though. I still regret missing them last year at the Chairlift aftershow. I'll never forgive that woman for stealing Travis' cell phone.

Sunday has the largest number of all-time favorite bands, even if there are some gaps of meh. Saturday is a hellhole.

I suspect that I will enjoy the entirety of Friday most of all, but I am most excited by the potential for Saturday.

Nothing touches how excited I am to see The Cure though....damn.

See I just don't understand that.

I mean while I acknowledge the difference, I still would see an act I've never seen if given the chance.

Just browsing the Farmer's Almanac and I saw this:

August 2013

1st-3rd. "3-H" weather-hazy, hot and humid.
4th-7th. Turning wet, followed by clearing.

Please God, no.

Eh. I'm born and raised in swamp land. I can do humid. Although I was referencing last year's Saturday storm and the ensuing mud for the remainder of the festival, mashed up with the heat.

I actually sacrificed my shoes to see RHCP.

Oh man, I guess I totally forgot what Lolla was like last year, you're right. As for heat, Friday was horrible, but as I recall, Sunday was pleasant after the front went through.

Weather seems pretty good for the weekend from what I hear. What would I know though? I'm sitting on a shitty Miami runway.

Are you serious?

I hope you made it for some of today, though the weather is SHIIIITTTT

Rest of the weekend will be wonderful though.

I made it! I had ground support in Chicago and we checked in at the hotel and made good time. Arrived in the middle of Twenty One Pilots so we saw pretty much the whole day.

In other news when Bernard Sumner started singing Atmosphere with the image of Ian Curtis behind him... I kinda shed a little tear not gonna lie. My favorite Joy Divison song. I don't know if New Order frequently uses it but it was amazing I never thought I would get a chance to see it live. Let alone getting to see Your Silent Face :D

I love The National to death but they definitely put me to sleep pretty quickly as expected. Postal Service was cool. Matt & Kim did not disappoint as always. Ellie Goulding was cool too I guess.

Wow, really? Did you go in with that attitude can I ask? Their setlists and the way they sound live is pretty exciting and vivacious if you ask me. I've seen neutral observers get really into them.

I've seen plenty of people use that complaint about their recorded music but not live.

Not at all. I went in there knowing The National are a favorite band of mine, but admittedly I was not sure how their music would translate live.

It was filled with as much energy and emotion as possible but I still got sidetracked pretty easily. I knew just about every song. It was hard getting into it but I genuinely felt like taking a nap during the show.

New Order was best of day 1 hands down. Matt & Kim on day 2 (seen them before though) probably. Postal Service were comparable though.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed The National. I just know if I didn't LOVE them, I wouldn't have been to impressed.

I hope they didn't play the main stage? Cause I've seen them twice on the main stage of Werchter and while those shows were pretty good; they don't compare to the show I saw in a small venue in June. That probably goes without saying for almost every band but I think even more so for The National.

I became a fan after seeing them live, without hearing a note of their music beforehand. If anyone goes into a National show expecting it to suck, they are illiterate, as the internet is full of people praising their live performances. As a matter of fact, I'm going to stop because the internet needs another National fan about as much as it needs another Breaking Bad fan.

At Lollapalooza, the odds of a band NOT being on a main stage are pretty low.

That being said, this is the first time I've seen them scheduled on the MAIN main stage, playing to a sea of Mumford fans. I'm sure it went over like a ton of bricks.

Down like a lead zeppelin, if you will.

It's a shame that Kendrick wasn't set up on that stage. I would have paid $100 to see the reaction to that.

Do you mean an outdoor stage with a main stage? Because there's usually just one main stage at the festivals I attend. Of course there's only one outdoor stage so yeah.

Lolla has two ends of the field, each with a "main" stage.

Then each end also has a side - stage. But, these side stages are almost as big as the main stages, and are basically just staggered main stages so they can have constant music on that side of the field all day. What I'm getting at is the atmosphere would be the same, whether main or side essentially.

Northapalooza's main stage is considered the overall main stage of the entire grounds, and that is where Mumfords were, as well as the NASH, I think.

There are four other stages that are smaller: Perry's, The Grove, BMI and Kidzapalooza. Perry's is basically it's own grounds, though, and is pretty big now. The Grove is the main side stage, that's where Death Grips was to headline. BMI is tiny as fuck and I think you can imagine how big Kidzapalooza is.

Think the Nash are a mediocre live band is a big time unpopular B&C opinion on par with "Joy Division > New Order, "In Lameblows," and "Cobbler makes a valid point."

It's your opinion and that's fine and I'm not shitting on it, I just get a kick out of someone finally going the other way on one of our sacred cows.

Couldn't be farther away from my experience of seeing them for the first time a few days ago.

It had to be me, right?

Didn't realize I'd get this much of a reaction to be honest. But yes, Mumford followed them up. I didn't stay for that though. I did go strictly for the National (because I am a National fan). I definitely think a smaller stage would've made a huge difference.

Southapalooza is the larger side, my mistake. But it is the side mums and Nash were on.
