The Seeger tour was fun with the horns, so combining them with E Street should be cool.

while i missed that tour, i generally am in favor of a solid horn section. and that appears to be such.

which will open the show even though it is neither nominated nor a familiar classic.

they left out: but that doesn't matter--it's fucking springsteen. the e street band could play a singing of the phone book, and people will still tune in.

So are we going to get the "all he's doing is shilling for the new album/he doesn't belong here tonight" complaints we got when U2 opened the Grammys with Boots a few years back?

I feel like, to the general public, the Boss isn't as easily hateable as U2. So probably not.

I think I actually only heard those comments from U2 fans on this board, so that was more directed to the site in general.

But you are definitely not wrong.

I think so, but I might be misremembering. I think it was a lot of "Yay, U2 .... but why are they there, exactly?"

There may have been a few more snippy comments like "they should pimp their album somewhere else and leave the spot on the show for someone nominated!" or something to that effect, like it was unseemly that U2 was performing their new song when they only there to do just that.

Yeah, I can see that.

I kinda remember watching it and being a bit nervous for them because deep down I didn't feel like "Boots" was a very good song, and I was hoping Bono wouldn't wear eyeliner (I hated the fact that he was wearing eyeliner at the time...hated, hated, hated it...seems silly now), and if I recall correctly it wasn't the greatest performance.
