They charted well but I think he's right. If itunes downloads were counted into the chart when Vertigo was released, I'm pretty sure it'd have been top 10 at least. Beautiful Day was 21 on the hot 100 and Vertigo 31.

It is odd. Here BD and Vertigo were solid no. 1 hits, and about every single but ABOY hit the top 10-20 as far as I remember.
ANd yes, even that horrific mistake with MJB hit no. 2.
U2 isn't nearly as big in America as they are anywhere else. For example, CANADA they have tons of number 1's
