The Resistance continues to show me why I think everyone is crazy to think they're innovative, even innovative for Muse. The only new thing we got was a lot of extra musician's playing in Muse-style, and cribbing from Chopin. I like a lot of the songs, but they all strike me as similar to what we had before, I'm sorry to all the fanatics but it ranks behind Black Holes for me, and obviously Absolution. They're a lot of fun live, its just that at the heart they're a different kind of pop music, there's no real soul and emotion behind the lyrics, although there is plenty of heartfelt paranoia, so maybe I'm just the wrong kind of person to relate to Bellamy. The songs I actually liked: 'Undisclosed Desires', 'Resistance'. 'Exogenesis Part 1', and I liked Uprising a lot more after blasting it in the car, 'Guiding Light' started off well and then got pretty repetitive to me.

I get that people like Muse a lot, but in comparison to what they've done before, how does this really sit with you?

I don't think Muse are "innovative" to start with and I can't really remember anyone here claiming they were, so I'm not sure why you're making an issue out of it. I also don't really pay much attention to Matt's lyrics. As for music, they're obviously not re-inventing themselves from scratch on this album, or trying something radically new, but I think they do go further into the things they've only flirted with before, like the three-part symphony for classical music and Undisclosed Desires for R'n'B (Supermassive Black Hole is like a careful first step into the water by comparison). I also don't think they've done something as full-on glammy as Uprising before, or a cabaret/Rufus Wainwright-style song like I Belong to You.

More UK tickets on sale tomorrow? Score, I've been checking almost every day after foolishly missing out before.

What was above it? For some reason I always think of Muse as being some hugely popular band now, I would have assumed it was #1.

I actually do have a friend who loves Muse because of Guitar Hero. I admit to having purchased a few tracks because of liking them on Guitar Hero or Rock Band games as well. :reject:

Thank ye, Gafferz. I guess I should have expected Jay-Z, sorta surprised Whitney Houston would make it that high at this point.

I was glad the set included more old songs than Resistance tracks, and I know their sound is about attacking the audience's ears, but with the old concrete structure of Giants Stadium, they should have played slightly less loud, there was a lot of echo and bleeding, and it was evident they weren't playing to a 'home crowd'. Oh well, I enjoyed it, they didn't really try and engage with the audience the way Lightbody did with Snow Patrol as a warm-up act, but I was glad for the chance to get to see them, especially that thanks to traffic my friends and I didn't get there until 7:30, but they were late so it was all good.

I thought it was kind of silly how they kept scrolling their name/logo between every song.

True, its an enjoyable mish-mash of styles. And I wasn't responding directly to anyone on here, but there are an awful lot of people out there that clearly live under a rock when it comes to music that will fight to the death about Muse being innovative, even with Resistance which clearly screams 'influenced' more than any major release I've heard lately. As for me, I'm impressed more by composition and earnest emotion, so lyrics do mean a lot to me with most music, which is why Muse has never really cracked into my favorite bands despite having fun with plenty of their music.

That said, 'Undisclosed Desires'

Muse rocked it at Giants Stadium - I'm glad they played a mix of tunes. My pals there who hadn't really heard them before were impressed. I shot video and actually got more of them than U2. I'll post them as they upload, one is from seats on night 1 and two are close up inside the Claw on night 2. :) Two new tunes and one old...

no shit! awesomeness more like it.. I was in absolute heaven for that short period of time they were on stage.. Hearing that intro and them doing America was enough to send me into orbit.. I was sweating, jumping and screaming like a maniac and when u2 came on i was just dripping in sweat like i had been thru a marathon. I can't wait to see your vids!

I loved The Fly riff he did the first nite, hearing Undisclosed Desires live, wow sexiness live.. And Plug in Baby on nite 2.

I was outside the catwalk on the rail both nites and most people around me didn't know of them and I of course filled them in and said they were in for a awesome performance. A friend of my friend julie, a long time u2 fan since the early 80s said: "That has to be the best supporting band ever that has opened for U2" he was very impressed. Others after their performance were all about getting their music(especially impressed by matt's guitar skills and dom's mad drummer skills) and were going to check them out on itunes.. I knew this would happen. Them opening for U2 is going to send them into orbit here in the US I just know it!

Are all the seats empty in the stands? :lmao: What a shame. That was kickass.

Yes, alas, and they didn't even start until 7:30 that night (was supposed to be 7). First night started like that too although by the end the stands had filled up considerably, not sure about the second night as I wasn't paying attention to the seats... :) Go figure!

There were a number of responsive people next to me in the claw on night 2, meaning they knew the tunes - although they seemed to know BH&R more than the earlier stuff - although they responded well to Hysteria I was surprised that it was more muted for Plug In Baby, that usually sets the crowd off but didn't here. I dunno.

What's that about The Fly riff? Which part of The Fly? :hyper:

Undisclosed Desires is teh sexeh, but I've heard a few early live renditions and my impression was that they really needed to beef that song up - it sounded a tad too thin compared to the album version.
