@Jim – that is okay, it is just a matter of taste here. Really great, if you liked 360. I just do feel the contrary, putting any Vertigo show – even with the most 'standard' setlists – way above the most 360 gigs I witnessed, with Dublin 1 and London 2 being the only exceptions. These gigs at least were fine, not extraordinary, but fine.

@Jdelbove: "The last leg of Vertigo tour was pretty crap in terms of setlists". Again facts, please: During 13 shows, half (!) of the amount than 360 in Europa, U2 went for 35 (!) different own/recorded tunes to be played, one more than in 2009. We talk about:

- The Saints Are Coming (12 times played) - a cover song live premiere, that discovers U2's roots again ...
- Window In The Skies (4 times played) –a fresh new U2 song premiere ...

- Vertigo (14 times played)
- City Of Blinding Lights (13 times played)
- Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own (13 times played)
- Love And Peace Or Else (9 times played)
- Yahweh (2 times played)
...3 singles from the then already 'old' album HTDAAB were still in the setlists, plus rarer still 2 non single tunes ...

- Beautiful Day (13 times played)
- Elevation (13 times played)
- Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of (3 times played)
- Walk On (4 times played)
- Kite (8 times played)
... 2 singles from ATYCLB were regular in the set, the remaining two 2 singles were rare special performances, sometimes even played in a bare acoustic arrangement in the middle of the crowd. Another re-invention goes for "Kite" being an elaborated, guitar solo driven tour de force closing some shows in an astonishing way, new musical instrumentation included ...

- Miss Sarajevo (13 times played)
... remained in the setlist as the 'obscure' non-U2-single track with its important message spreading further ...

- The First Time (4 times played)
... another even more 'obscure' choice ror the occasional (!) acoustic slot in the middle of the crowd. Another live premiere for the Vertigo tour, a beautiful ZOOROPA non single track in perfect renditions ...

- One (13 times played)
- The Fly (12 times played)
- Mysterious Ways (9 times played)
- Until The End Of The World (7 times played)
- Zoo Station (4 times played)
- Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (1 time played)
... ACHTUNG BABY also was heavily performed, with most of the fine choices played more than on 50% of the concerts. And even the astonishing non-single-track ZS was to be caught statiscally on every 3rd night. And thanx to a fan, U2 jammed also another album single on their final night as a surprise ...

- Angel Of Harlem (12 times played)
- Desire (5 times played)
- All I Want Is You (2 times played)
...in good LoveTown tradition even 3 of the RATTLE AND HUM singles made it into the setlists, with AOH being a fine performed staple (with new blues harp arrangement!) and the other two being rarer surprises ...

- Where The Streets Have No Name (13 times played)
- I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (7 times played)
- With Or Without You (13 times played)
- Bullet The Blue Sky (13 times played)
- One Tree Hill (4 times played)
...as usual (<->360 tour) at least four of THE JOSHUA TREE were performed, including the non-single protest tune BTBS. ISHFWILF was re-invented, too – with a longer snippeted coda. Even WOWY had a few inpired, above standard versions (e.g. Melbourne 1) – and the big 'surprise' here, of course, was the resurrection of the full band OTH full of atmosphere and intensity.

- Pride (In The Name Of Love) (13 times played)
- Bad (4 times played)
...apart from the lead single, even "Bad" was played rather regular, on every 3rd night, somtimes even as the set's center song.

- Sunday Bloody Sunday (13 times played)
- New Year's Day (8 times played)
- Party Girl (2 times played)
...A good package from the earlier days – here 1982 – was performed. Not surprisingly the 2 big WAR singles, rarer the outing of the celebratory B-side ...

- I Will Follow (6 times played)
- Out Of Control (1 time played)
...even their roots were not neglected (<-> 360) with the big single IWF to be performed, but also a one-off outing for their very first EP-track

So @Jdelbove, you might call this "crap" – I'd call it perfect and a dream for a U2-song-pool to build the setlist upon!
Oh so you think the Vertigo tour is better than the 360 tour?
-So The First Time, One Tree Hill and Zoo Station are better than The Unforgettable Fire, Ultraviolet and Stay?
-Yahweh and Love and Peace or Else are better than Moment of Surrender and Unkown Caller?
-You like Window in the Skies and The Saints Are Coming?
-They've finally dropped Bullet the Blue Sky.
-Party Girl was also played 2 times on U2 360.
-I'm also glad they dropped I Wil Follow and I don't really care about Out of Control.
-Angel of Harlem and Desire were also played on U2 360 but not as much (luckily).

So the only things that were better about about the setlists during the fifth leg of Vertigo were the Achtung Baby songs The Fly and WGRYWH (only once), All I Want Is You, Kite and Miss Sarajevo.
I even agree with you that the setlists of U2 360 aren't as good as the Vertigo tour ones but the setlists on the fifth leg weren't as good.

With some fans, the past is always greater than the present or future.

It's funny I see some that ripped Bomb and the Vertigo tour but now praise it because it's not the present album and tour. Some people are just nostalgic. I know children of the 80's who will adamantly bash 80's music, but as soon as one of those infomercials with 'Ballads of the 80's' comes on they know every word and tell you how it reminds them of their past.

this thread makes very little sense

Wha? Come on?!

Makes perfect sense.

If U2 did a show like this, it would be the greatest tour eva:

1. Boots
2. NLOTH
3. Magnificent
4. Bullet the Blue Sky(snippet of Womanfish)
5. ISHFWILF(snippet Slug)
6. SUC
7. SBS(one line of Acrobat)
8. UC
9. WOWY(snippet Big Girls)
10. Boots
11. Boots
12. Boots
13. Boots
14. Boots(snippet Alex descends)
15. Boots
16. Boots
17. Boots
18. Boots
19. Boots
20. Boots
21. Boots
22. Boots

All new songs and obscure songs :hyper:

HTDAAB sucks yet the Vertigo tour seems better...
but in the end it all doesn't matter...

Have a nice day y'all

I could care less anymore how predictable and repetitive the setlists have been for the last 20-25 years, nor do I care if U of PHX Stadium is half, three-quarters or completely sold-out...I'll be dancing my big fat ass off on Oct. 20, that's all I know!!!

I'm with you.. at Dublin II where I was stood in the pit, i felt that there were more 'trainspotter' fans around my area than 'shake by big fat ass' fans which isn't as much fun at all. I wished I'd piled in with the locals further back and gone balistic with them.

I honestly can't figure out what you're trying to say here

Honestly we knew that:applaud:

Honestly if you try to answer we would welcome an answer like that one here and not a 1 or 2 sentence answer incl. some simlies :up::up:

^Thanks Tourist for this great post

you know, everyone should figure out for themselves what theythink is the best tour but to say 360 is the best tour ever is ridicoulous after watching this footage again is just plain stupid, in my opinion off course. And yes I went to the concert more than once too by the way.

there is no way 360 is the best tour ever, but i do get the feeling that i'm going to enjoy it more than Vertigo (i'll have a true opinion after Saturday's show).

both tours look like they have their strong points, but i think the tie-breaker will come down to the fact that NLOTH ranks in my top 3 U2 albums, where i wasn't too crazy about HTDAAB. so yeah, the fact that i don't have to hear 8 songs from HTDAAB is enough reason for me to say that 360 will be better.

another thing, i've noticed some of you using 5 legs of data (or in some cases "YouTube") to try to make your argument. 360 has only had 1 full leg so far. U2 are known to, at least recently, mix things up a lot more in the final legs of their tours. so i dare you to just compare leg 1 of Vertigo to leg 1 of 360.

both 35 songs although one could argue that happy birthday is really a song that should be counted but no complaints there. The "problem"is the "staticness"of the first 4 songs and the encore which hasnt changed eventhough it is nog the greatest thing in the world obviously.

see, both legs 1 and 2 are pretty comparable. as far as switching openers and closers, i'd personally rather them stick with one. i always looked at the fact that U2 kept switching openers and closers as a weakness during the Vertigo Tour, as in they weren't confident enough to stick with one and roll with it.

The best tours, for me, are going to be the ones where they play the most songs i personally love. Its that simple for me, and really i'm sure it is for just about everyone else. They can play a great version of Stuck in Moment, but its still a song I don't really care for, so its not going to be anything that gets me excited.
Its way too subjective, and silly to say this set is universally better than that set. As excited as I am to see UF, and UV on this tour, both sound great- but for my personal taste Vertigo had the Electric Co, and Running to Stand Still. Those two songs are far better than UF and UV for me personally. I would actually rather hear Running for the 20th time, than UF- I like UF, but I love Running. Its that simple.
I know I am in the minority around here, but I love Miracle Drug and think it is a way better song than magnificent  So the show with MD is going to appeal to me more personally. That's not to say I won't enjoy Magnificent, and UF- I will for sure, but if you are going to try and compare, its always going to come personal preference. The show that has more of my top 30-20 U2 songs is almost always going to be better to me.

I think its funny when someone (as done earlier in this thread) lists the songs side by side and makes a judgment on which is better. Or the "so you think x is better than y". Yes, some people do, so what? You cannot prove otherwise, its just your opinion. (I actually prefer the live version of Yahweh to about half the live songs from nloth) That is going to be different for just about everyone at the show. There is no consensus, there is no this the better song than that.

I like to read others opinions, it's always interesting to me to see what people love about U2. I hate when, which happens more and more on here, people jump all over everyone else for not sharing their opinion. It's cool when people ask why you like something and they give their reasons or state their opinion with a reason. Like:
as far as switching openers and closers, i'd personally rather them stick with one. i always looked at the fact that U2 kept switching openers and closers as a weakness during the Vertigo Tour, as in they weren't confident enough to stick with one and roll with it.

I totally disagree with this, I would love to see different openers. but like that he gives his reason why.

The sad part, is this almost never happens anymore. Its just ridicule people and act as if they have bad taste for liking different songs.

oh well, i guess that as why i barely have 1k posts after 9 years.

Honestly we knew that:applaud:

@ nielsgov

Oh so you think the 360 Tour is better than any other Tour before
I never said it was better than any other tour. Before you answer learn to read. (oh and my answer will be short with some smilies :D)

I said it was better than Vertigo leg 5 because you were comparing it with Vertigo leg 5. I even think that Vetigo leg 1 had better setlists than U2 360 leg 1!
But I hope that the setlist will get better during the next legs.

@ nilsgov

Honestly i knew that

BUT

This is not in compare to the fifth leg of Vertigo this is your own imperssion of songs...and the 360 Tour in general.

So you should remember your postings before you try to tell something different

And again....short answers with smilies show only the limits of your arguments

With some fans, the past is always greater than the present or future.

You might talk about yourself, but surely not about me. I neither did rip Bomb nor the Vertigo tour … instead I still think, this tour in 05/06 was one of the best U2, have done. In comparison, 360 has an impressive stage, some beautiful musical moments … and much less energy.:|

And so what do you think of the band performing their Greatest Hits in cut single formats, as "Pride" or "Sunday"? Is this not a kind of nostalgia, too?

Is it nostalgia? No.

But if I went to go see the Rolling Stones there are certain songs I would expect to hear. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Don't know. I think U2 have their "Satisfaction" with "Sunday Bloody Sunday" or "Brown Sugar" with "Pride" and some others, they think, they have to play ... And many people expect them to do so. No real difference there between U2 and the Stones – apart from the latter and older guys performing their war horses with more musical joy and emotion (solos!).

That was my point.

No real difference there between U2 and the Stones – apart from the latter and older guys performing their war horses with more musical joy and emotion (solos!).

You're joking right? No difference? When was the last time the Stones have made a good album?

Solos? How long have you been following U2?

You're joking right? No difference? When was the last time the Stones have made a good album?

Not joking: The Stones at the moment are lightyears ahead of U2, as a live band and a studio one – sad, but true. Their last album by the way – obviously you have no idea (did you ever attend a Stones gig by the way? How many?) – was their 22nd studio album: "A Bigger Bang" (September 2005). The recording sessions were that intense and creative, that the band decided to release 16 tracks on it. As a bonus DVD you even got two more brand new tracks.
If you liked Rock & Blues (and so one of the real biggest band to play this aka The Rolling Stones) you'd have had fun with the album, if not just because the simply beautiful tune "Streets Of Love".

I have no clue what you mean by they are light years ahead of U2 as a studio album. Of course it's all subjective, but I don't think the Stones have done a decent album in over a decade. When I saw them, yes they put on a good show, but only two tracks from the new album. I don't think the Stones have been relevant as far as new music since probably 94(and then before that they had a hiatus of relevance), they will always be relevant as a live act, but I think they are pretty much the definition of a nostaligic act.

put aside all Youtube videos, statistics, and other evidense supporting arguments. now that i've seen both shows, i am confirming that 360 is the better tour.

And i have seen more shows on this tour than you Mikal and i m confirming that this is the WEAKEST TOUR OF U2 EVER:up:
