Shuttlecock XXIV: Making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

OMG, I'm looking at the blue crack screen on my Blackberry. I think I've died and gone to heaven. Except that it's like really small and stuff and I doubt I will actually post using it except in an emergency - like, you know, sitting in an airport bored.

Well you braggarts may have new love interests, but I have....um...new Blu-Rays...

:jumpoffbridge:

We waited an insanely long time for our new love interests. I mean, I've wanted a Blackberry for years now.

ETA: sorry, I quoted you before you edited, ha

I had a cute recovering Mormon nurse all lined up for popmofo but then she met a hot Mexican. It's going around here - the hot Mexican thing.

This conversation is bringing the lulz. And hey, it's about time to think-tank a new thread title, yes?

Joyful, are you dating an Hispanic?

I've never found a satisfactory answer for this question, but I'm goin to keep asking: why is it (supposedly) grammatically correct to use "an" before words that start with H? The H is pronounced, so it's not like it's a pseudo-vowel or anything.

"An historic" .... that's always really bugged me.

"recovering Moromon nurse"?

Interesting

Well, she's a recovering Mormon who happens to be a nurse ... not a recovering nurse. She's like the hottest girl in Abq. but doesn't collect CDs so I guess the relationship was doomed anyway, with or without the Mexican.

I think anyone who said "Music? ... yeah, I guess music is okay. I mostly just listen to the radio in the car" wouldn't be a good match for popmofo.

Because an H followed by an I basically sounds like an I? "a Hispanic" or "a historic" just doesn't sound right to me. Also, I just said "an H" not "a H" which also just doesn't sound right because the "H" alone sounds like an "A." But you'd say "A human" because the H then sounds like a U. I think H just takes on the sound of the vowel following it. We could go on about this one all day.

I know I've brought it up a few times, but I would once again like to mention how awkward a date became earlier this year when a girl said to me, "Oh, I love U2! My favorite songs are Window In the Skies and The Saints Are Coming!"

I was at a complete loss for words.

Oh dear. That's quite a buzz kill. Interesting, though, that they could even get new fans with those two songs.

I actually would have been surprised that she knew those two songs - they're relatively obscure in the "casual U2 fan" realm, I think.

And that makes sense, joyful. Thanks for your vowel thoughts.

People who like crappy* U2 songs fail at life?

new thread title, people! We only have 11 posts left!

*I actually quite like both of these songs, but I realize I'm generally considered to be weird anyway.
