Hey everyone---big problem here---I broke my foot last week and will be in a cast for the next 6-8 weeks. My first thought was what am I going to do about the U2 concert:sad: Luckily, I have seats (some kind of weird foresight?) but I'm really worried about dealing with the crowds and crutches and pain!! Any thoughts? Anyone know if I can be moved to a handicapped section (if these exist?) Help!!!
I know they have wheelchair/companion seating, but I don't know about crutches. Go to the ADA section of the Gillette website- there's a # you can call with related questions. Good luck & feel better!

I know that if they request special service, they'll help u. They probably would let you into the stadium a few minutes before the gates open to get to ur seat. E-mail them as see. I am sure they'll do something. Where are your seats?

I hope you feel better :hug:

Do you guys realize how huge the Claw is gonna look at Gillette? ha. It's such a small stadium. The catwalk will pass beyond the 50 yard line. The silver thingy will be above the stadium itself. I was there last month. Looking at the place and thinking "wow, every seat is gonna be a good one". Gonna be loud too. The Claw will take over the stadium ha

Sounds great. :)

Feel better, u2mama! Hopefully there won't be a lot of stairs for you to conquer. :/ I went to a Foo Fighters concert w/a broken ankle (GA, of COURSE, ugh) and with a spot on the catwalk, it was okay, having something to lean on, but it was exhausting. It's great you have seats--I'm sure you'll be fine, just be careful on those stairs and don't try to go anywere when the lights are down!

It sounds crazy, but when I went to a concert in a cast I put those glow necklaces all over it so people wouldn't bump into my broken foot. I don't know if it helped, but I made it through unscathed (and looking festive).
Maybe Bono will sign your cast!

Hey everyone, thanks for the good wishes and suggestions. I emailed the stadium and they said that I shouldn't have too much trouble based on where my seats are (section 130) but if it looks too hard to get to they will try to accomodate me. I love the glow stick idea--definitely going to do that! (i could've gotten a glow in the dark cast but went with hot pink instead!) I just hope the pain goes away--I can't imagine not standing and dancing!! If you see me hobbling around say hi--I won't be hard to miss!

Now that would be something--any ideas on how I can get him to do it?!

Not during the show from section 130, that's for sure.... You'd have to get him to do it on the way in to Gillette. Maybe stand by the entrance with a big sign "EASE MY PAIN... SIGN MY CAST", or something more clever.

Yeah, I can see Bono doing that. Unless he leans out the window tapping his watch last time they did a Boston show (official show) while The Edge is taking his time signing autographs. Even though Bono is the last person who needs to do a soundcheck and The Edge is the first, he still signed while Bono used it as an eccuse..... Sorry, still fuming haha

Well I'd love to if I'd had that many. I think I only got up to sixteen, or maybe sixteen and a half experiences, and most of them are shrouded in an alcoholic haze :)

It's still more than most of us have. What other US shows are you going to? Wish I could help you out with transportation from Boston. I'm not flying into Boston this time. Opted for Providence, which is about an hour southwest of Boston, but about the same distance from Foxboro. Easier getting in and out of the airport there.

I don't know what shows I'm going to yet. I have tickets to every city (but not every show). I'm planning to do some couchsurfing around the US and use the tickets and a copy of my wee book as a form of currency to pay the hosts with. They see U2 for free, I get somewhere to stay for "free". And I also get a local host, and that's always a very good thing.

So I may see lots of shows, I may see very few!

Actually, I wonder if I could put a post in the What You Want / Have forum about this.

Nice tip about Providence airport, I'd never have known about that before, but then I actually want to see Boston too. Must be the Irish thing :)

Definitely see Boston. There's not much to the South End (the Irish end) IMO, but make sure you go get some Italian food and pastries in the North End. Take the Green Line subway and get off at Government Center then head east around Fanueil Hall (stop and check that out) then head toward the North End. Just ask anyone for directions or have a good map. Giacomo's is one of my favorite restaurants in the North End...if you're willing to wait a bit. If you're into history, walk the Freedom Trail. It'll give you a good feel for how America began its separation from England. I love Boston and never tire of the city...and September is a nice time to be there.

Ten Bucks for the person who holds me a spot in the GA line for night 2. Twenty if its in the top 15.

haha

I'm hoping to leave Philly by like 10pm

Excellent! Thanks a million for the tips. I am indeed into history and I'm currently reading a lot about the USA's beginnings, amongst other US literature. I think most Irish and British people have a secret fascination with America, I'm certainly really looking forward to having a good mooch around.

some good tips there, but 1 huge clarification:
the 'irish' section of Boston is South Boston, not the South End. 2 different places with 1 huge difference if you are Catholic (I think you can figure it out...)

Either way, South Boston is really no more Irish than any other blue collar neighborhood of Boston anymore. South end is more centrally located and has great restaurants.

the freedom trail (red line in the sidewalk) will get you to all of the historic sections of Boston. It goes right by my house in the Charlestown neighborhood when going to the Bunker Hill Monument.

the other section of Boston to see (especially if you like shopping) that is not covered by the freedom trail is Back Bay. cool bars in that too. and also Cambridge spots arent on the Freedom Trail either.

Thanks for clarifying that Gretzky. Either way, like you said, there's not much Irish about it. BTW, what's a Yankees fan doing in Boston?

Also, if you follow the Freedom Trail, it'll eventually take you right into the North End...so just follow the red trail on the sidewalk and you'll end up in the North End anyway without have to take the subway.

I thought I could see some of Boston on the 22nd, but now the date for Jersey was changed to the 23rd and I have to leave earlier

agreed no need for 'the T' (subway) to do the freedom trail. the whole freedom trail is walkable in 1 day, especially if you cut out the 2 sights in the Charlestown area.

I dont recomend doing that of course , but Charlestown as its just across the river is a bit further apart than the other sights.

but definitely no need for 'the T' between stops on the freedom trail. and yes, the North End is part of the trail. Paul Revere house and the Old North church (one if by land, 2 if by sea) are 2 historic sights to see. and of course the food!

I am really glad I didn't go ahead with the 21st now. I only have two days between shows now. Gotta drive back up to Maine after the 20th and then drive down to Jersey on the 23rd now.

CBS Scene on the 19th at 7:30. :)

I'm making the reservation sometime next week, so if you or any other interferencers are planning on attending, let me know by next week. Hate to sound like a pain, but this is already up to 18 people. There's no way we can walk in on a Saturday night and expect to get a table without a reservation.

Alright, I'll let you know.
