Bono wearing bulletproof vest on stage?

I was watching a clip of New Year's Day from the 27 July Dublin show on YouTube (if i post a link it will probably get deleted, so just look for the clip posted by U2006; should be easy to find).

At about 3:35 into the song, Bono lifts his arms, and if you're watching the clip in full screen you can see a distinct bulging shape around his waist, chest and stomach. Does he wear a bulletproof vest onstage? It looks to distinctly shaped and bulky to be merely layers of clothes (which would be exceedingly hot and unnecessary in summer), bulging fat/beergut (lol), or electronics-related mic or monitor stuff.

Just curious, because the bulky outline under his shirt looked so odd and obvious in the clip. I wouldn't be surprised if he does, especially at outdoor stadium shows.

Melodramatic? Um, no...but when posting links to places like for bootlegs, for example, people always leave spaces between the letters in their links (as in r a p i d s h a r e .com, or some such variation for similar sites). I do believe the site does not allow actual working links to bootleg downloads, whether video or audio. Perhaps, I'm mistaken...Anyway, it's not a hard clip to find, so it's really not a big deal. The main point, after all, isn't whether I post the actual link here. In any case, it wasn't the subject matter of my post that made me not post the link, but what I thought was the site policy on such links.

(Edit: Judging from the above post, I guess youtube links are ok, even if bootleg clips...my bad. I thought there was a site policy against working links to bootleg materials of any kind.)
 
What a blast, but it would explain why he suddenly gained an inch or two

Interesting...never heard of "men's girdles"! Heard of kinky men who may like to wear girdles (perhaps Bono's former business partner, Mr. Pussy?), but that's a whole different thing! :hmm:
 
Hmmm, I don't know, but it would be possible. That would also explain why he's never taking his jacket off even if it's hot like hell. He wore his t-shirt only a lot more during the Vertigo tour. On the other hand I hope it's not true, would make me kind of sad. I can't tell from the videos, all I know is that Bono isn't skinny, he's stocky, he's just built this way.

But it's actually something I don't like to think about. I guess no one here likes to think about it. But when we were in Milan, there were no security controls, you could have taken everything into the stadium. There were moments where I thought: This could really get dangerous and they're so exposed up on stage. Normally I don't think like that, but sometimes it just occurs to me that there are a lot of crazy people out there and many of them don't exactly love the man.

I agree in a sense...I was just curious because i thought the odd-shaped bulge was obvious...in the post-john lennon times i guess rock stars can't be too cautious...it is a shame there may be crazy people out there...i hope it was just bono getting a middle-age paunch!
 
it wont be a bullet proof vest. think about it...why go to the bother of protecting your vital organs and leave the head unprotected. I must say tho...I have had my suspicions about a man girdle on Bono loooooooooooooooong before reading this!
 
OK, this topic is getting ridiculous.

I think the thing with the bullet proof vest isn't very funny. If it's true, it's quite serious. If not, let's just say it was a bad camera angle. Bono has lost a lot of weight recently, but he'll never stop being stocky, he was actually born like this. People who say there was a time when Bono was skinny are fooling themselves. Popmart was the only time I thought he was too thin, he looked sick back then. Bono with some flesh on his bones is perfect, he's in very good form and looks fit. He's not overweight, for a man his age he's actually pretty fine, and he looks much better than those skinny rockstars where you can see the bones and all. Horrible. In fact, he has had a belly for most part of the Vertigo tour, especially in 2006, due to a back injury, but it's gone now.

Btw, Edge has quite a beer belly. Why is no one talking about that?

I'm not complaining, I think they all look very good.

Looooooooooong before you were a fan (mid 80s), Bono was subject to a number of threats on his life, from different sources, and that was way before he reached the level of status he is now. So in theory, his life should be in more danger now than it ever was.
 
^ Yes, and that's why I say it's quite serious.

I'd rather him having a few pounds more than him having to wear a bullet proof vest.

Whatever he's wearing underneath, he's sweating terribly. I felt Bono's sweat on me when I was underneath the bridge in Berlin :uhoh: I've been wondering why he doesn't take that damn jacket off when it's so hot.
 
Really? I have the exact opposite problem, that's why I feel for Bono. I always sweat, I always feel warm, even in winter. When most people are wearing jackets and coats, I just go around in a long sleeve top. I'm almost never cold. It's really annoying sometimes. I always dress with as little as possible and still sweat. When I see Bono up on stage wearing all this stuff I'm like :huh: I think I'd die from a heart attack or something.

Im with you, as soon as i seen the title, i become worried and confused already, but on the promo tour he seemed alot more slim. Still though, saying he is wearing a bullet proof vest in his home town is jumping to conclusions. Its possible its just something simple, maybe like a body vest cooler, or just something to keep Bono is a good state for the tour, if it was a bullet proof vest, im sure by now the truth would of been out. All the helpers who work and organise the bands gear, would of mentioned something. Imagine walking in his dressing room and seeing a bullet proof vest on a hanger, your not exactly going to keep it to yourself, your tempted to tell someone. So yeah, its either bono being bono, or some body eqiupment.
