I've already finished a hip-hop playlist of my own, but that is in no way favorably biasing me toward the idea of a hip-hop DI. :uhoh:

I'd obviously love to do post-rock, and you know Axver would be down for that.

Hell yes.

A hip-hop tournament holds essentially no interest to me as a listener or contestant. After sitting out the retro mini-tournament, I was hoping the next one would be something I could do, but if it's not, I'm not exactly going to weep at night about it.

I'd be down with a hip-hop mini game.

Or the 60's thing. Whatevs. I'm not picky. I can adapt. I'm like a chameleon, except not as cool.

Bump.

The next edition of Desert Island is coming. With Shuttlecock U2 having been out for a month now, and with the tour still a couple of months off, we have a nice break here for a new tournament. Obviously, we never did bother with a mini this time, which is fine. I think we all needed a break.

But before I start a DI6 signup thread, I wanted to get some feedback from you all. Specifically, I wanted to know if there was anything people wanted to see changed this time. I know we've discussed the length of playlists previously, and we've kept it the same at 160 minutes. Now that we've had some time to digest things, do we alter the length at all, or stay the same? I personally enjoy it as it is, but I know others have thought differently in the past.

Also, we had some discussion before about the groups, and how they come together. For the last few editions, it's been random, straight from my Red Sox hat. There was some thought that perhaps we'd send playlists out, let people rank them, and develop a system based on those rankings to formulate the groups. How do we feel about that now?

Thirdly, any rule changes need to be made? I know one issue that arose last time was using too much material from the same source, regardless if it's multiple performers. I think we wanted to avoid that happening again, which means a slight rule change. Anything else come to mind? Should any rules that we have now go away?

Tell me what ya'll are thinking.

Hey, glad to see the gears start turning on this again.

I think the max length rule should stay the same, never saw a problem with that.

The pre-ranking system would be really beneficial for everyone involved, and it would really utilize the "pre-tourney running diary" setup we had going on last time as well.

As for the "too much material from the same source" rule, it was an isolated incident from last time, but I really do think it should be put into effect as a precaution.

I can't think of any other specific rule changes off of the top of my head, but I thought the last tourney was really well-run, organized and most importantly, fun, aside from a few minor personal things. The only thing I ever take issue with is voting style/method, but there's nothing you can do about that, you know?

Would you start the sign-up thread now? Or within the next couple of days?

Keep everything the same as V, but nix the compilations. It was only one incident, but it's a loophole that could easily be exploited in the future. I'm surprised it hadn't happened before.

Anyway, can't wait for this. I'm cooking up something special this time. Aww yeah.

I think the rule should be that you can't use more than one track from any type of CD/album/compilation unless it's approved by Phanan. Something like last time would have been avoided, but there could be cases where it could be OK. I think some rule with discretion on a case-by-case basis is best.

I finally got around to making this list this evening. I'm nearly finished. I don't want to give much away, but the word "fuck" made it into my title.

i definitely think the length should stay the same. mostly because i already have two lists done and it'd fuck everything up to have to go remove tracks.

i like everyone's idea about compilations and such, especially pfan's where it can be approved by phanan if need be.

i've been looking forward to a new di :D

Definitely can't wait for this to start up again, a little piece of my life is missing without DI....or....something

I pm'd Phanan to make sure I'd be signed up in case I missed a day or something.... I hope it happens. :reject:

I think there should be another mini-DI type contest again, on a smaller scale. I'd be the first to sign up for that. What was it called, the symphonic playlist or something? That was great. I'd do that again. Cap it at 60 minutes of something, and make the lists requisitely themed some how.

I'll have to pass on the regular DI game again though.

I'd just like to chime in here ...

I'd like the length to stay at 160. That's served us well. The restriction re: compilations is quite welcome. Bit of an oversight on my behalf not to include it in the original rules.

Not so sure how I feel about not randomising the group selections. Depends on how seeding is done, really. Perhaps for past contestants, it could be based upon prior performance, with the high achievers distributed through separate groups?

Mine has been hovering near completion for 5 months.

haha nice! I made one months ago, but now have made a new one. I did take a lot of elements from the old one though.

Fun Fact: over half the artists on my list are ones I have not previously used. I think I have a much better chance of doing well than any of my previous lists... less songs that will scare people or make them scratch their heads

I think 26 of 40 are new for me.

Hardy hasn't been around much, but he may be interested, especially since he made into the finale last time :) Just a heads up...
