Hey! You agree with me about Levitate? Finally I found someone that does! :applaud:

Keep in mind, I was looking forward to Unknown Caller more than any other song except possibly Breathe. One delivered big time, the other didn't IMO.

UC has received a healthy blend of praise and criticism, and I can't really blame you for liking it. Obviously, people are seeing something good in it. Personally, I suspect the only reason I can stomach it is because I'm in such high spirits after those first three tracks.

Ha! UC was the one I was expecting the least along with SUC after those Wal-Mart clips. Maybe that's why. But I doubt, cause if that was the case, it would have worn out by now.
Yeah, it's hard to compete with those first three. And UC manages to beat them. I also love the way it changes and gets better as the song goes. The lyrics are very good too. One of the best on the record imo.
Now that's funny: Breathe is the only song on the record that doesn't amazes me. It has grown on me since the first listen, but not enough. Yet.

to me its growing but still sounds like they are trying too hard in the beginning... its gonna be killer live tho

Seriously I've tried. Don't get me wrong... I love many songs on this album. Hell, I even really like Boots still. I also REALLY want to like this song. I even went into my first listen with low expectations because I knew the hype I was reading on these forums were setting my expectations too high.

But, I just don't get what everyone is hearing in Magnificent that I'm not. Did I get the right copy of the song? The Depeche Mode beginning is cheesy, the synth in the background irritates me, the lyrics aren't that interesting, and it just drags on and on... the first song that this reminded me of was A Man and a Woman

Anyone else having this problem? We can cope together.

It is you .. as an U2 fan you can't dislike this song IMO. It's brilliant.
Sorry mate ...

Breathe just rules. Hard. When was the last time ol' Boner sounded that energetic on an album? Seems like an eternity. Talk about a song building epically; "I've found grace inside a sound/I've found grace/It's all I've found" is possibly the emotional climax and summation of the entire record. The solo sounds badass too. Getting some Lovetown back in the mix there.

I'm not going to criticize UC too harshly until the tour. If it drags then as well, it will be a missed opportunity. I trust U2 won't disappoint us.

Magnificent is absolutely epic. I honestly cannot fathom how you can listen to it and not come to the same conclusion.

Like many other fans on this board, I waited many albums for a song this *classic* to be created. It's a true return to form. It is the sound of an amazing band in full flight, hitting on all cylinders, doing what they do in a way that no one else can replicate.

Bono's (almost ) always energetic, he just can't sing in Michael Stipe speed. I got really scared when people compared Breathe to It's the End of the World...
I really don't know what Breathe is lacking. I hear it, like it, but something is missing. Or maybe there's something that shouldn't be there? I really wish I knew what it is.
I'll just wait the live versions too. It is indeed a song that has good chances to bring the house down live. And maybe they will take/add whatever is what's bothering me about that song.
Of course, the studio version could always grow on me. I remember feeling something very similar to COBL and OOTS on my first two years with HTDAAB and now they're my favorite on that record by a mile.

Who knows? Maybe the same happens with you and UC.

Ringing guitar in the distance at the beginning and near the end-- background noise, almost like a metaphor for the call to prayer while staying in the riad @ Fez - CHECK
Bono singing about his mother who died far too young - CHECK
Most Non-U2 sounding intro using the synth - CHECK
Edge sounding like hes on fire; making the people who think hes lost it since the Joshua Tree shut the fuck up - CHECK
Minimalist/Abstract Lyrics which say so much - CHECK
Adam and Larry kicking ass - CHECK FUCKING MATE

An aside: This album is far more of a group effort than the previous few albums. Edge's Guitar and Bono's vocals were enough in the previous ones, but in this one, much like in Pop, its about the whole 4 piece band and the layers on top of the song. I get the feeling that some people who aren't getting the album might need to get a better sound system/headphones because this album is more dynamic than HTDAAB and you lose a lot without having output that can produce the bass properly.

aww isnt it cute the I dont get Magnigicent and Magnigicent appreciationg thread are right next to each othere.....guess who's winning

People are definitely overthinking this one. Just paste the video's url in the text box and nothing will happen.

I think they are using the advanced editing box in their reply and pasting the link in the 'url' code thingy.

Yeah just paste the link here, it automatically embeds it correctly.

Magnificent is good but it is no Beautiful Day. I can kinda see the complaints of it being a tad repetitive with not much substance in the chorus. It's essentially just that one line "only love.." repeated, but no doubt with some really uplifting guitar work! And a kickass intro and gorgeous bridge. But I rank MOS better overall.
