skipping boots is my preferred way of listening to this album

Haha, same. Out of my two least favourites, I'm definitely favouring Comedy over Boots too. Its final third is really quite good, and I think I'll grow accustomed to the first two thirds.

I skipped it on my second listen. :reject:

I actually skipped it on my first listen. I've only listened to it as part of complete listening parties - a couple in here, one with Ali over AIM.

And I don't suppose you guys could take a look over my U2gigs article? I'm tired as, so some proofreading just to tell me it's coherent and doesn't miss anything big or say anything utterly stupid would be a help. U2gigs.com - U2 at the Brit Awards

I had read it before you asked  Looks great, I couldn't have described the performance in such detail.

Sounds fine Ax, maybe a little choppy.

Haha, thanks both of you. Choppiness I can handle; I'm far too tired to write something elegant, especially given that the feed I watched was itself choppy! It was hard to grab at many details. I await a YouTube video ...

I missed the very beginning, so it was good to find out about God Save the Queen.

So he did sing the Star Spangled Banner at the Grammys? interesting.

Well, it was pre-recorded, but yeah. I'm torn on whether I should add it as a snippet or not. And that "let me in the sound" bit has got to be Fez, no?

Yes, along with the Miracle Drug snippet in Breathe.

Did you ever count 4th of July on tuf?

and you are pushing it with Fez, kiddo.

No, but that was generic intro music - the national anthems were specifically individually done for these appearances. But I agree that it's just an intro, so I haven't included it yet. I think I noted the Grammys one in comments, though, so I'll go add it to the Brits.

And I'm pretty sure they've taken the Fez "let me in the sound" vocal mix rather than the Boots one.

Axver, have you even been to sleep yet?

Oh, the Brits. How was it?

I've had three hours. I'm going to be a wreck.

Brits performance wasn't bad. A bit better than the Grammys. Still, they haven't nailed the song yet.

Well, I've listened plenty of times now. Still feel the same way.

The beginning is incredible, the ending is incredible, and the middle is good, but could be better. Still kinda strange how the music changes at that point. Which is weird because it still works well as a cohesive album. Yet I'm still left to wonder if they felt the album was getting a bit too atmospheric, a bit too dense, and they needed to lighten it up a bit in the middle by discarding the other two songs. Imagine if the entire album was the same as the beginning and the end.

Oh yeah, just read your article on U2gigs.
I take it there's no video yet?

Haven't seen any video yet, but I'm not following WTAHAN that closely. Well, no, I tell a lie, there's a clip, but it's not complete so I haven't even checked it out. When there's a full video, I'll put it in the U2gigs article.

Yeah, I can see your point. It is interesting how the album still makes sense and the middle part does not really sound out of place. I wonder if Crazy Tonight and SUC are the two songs that stopped them from releasing the album last November.

Awesome :)
So I listened to NLOTH through my headphones last night with no distractions, and I certainly picked up a few subtleties that I missed last night. MOS still takes my breath away every time I hear it, and I think Fez might become one of my favourite U2 songs. I like Stand Up more and more on each listen - it certainly gets better as it goes on!

I'm wondering if they decided to hold onto some more atmospheric stuff just because they are actually serious about this second album in late 2009 that Bono's calling "pastoral".

Because if so, and if it comes to pass, I can handle that. I can handle that very well.

(You all know I'll re-tracklist things to suit myself in the end anyway.)

Oh, let's hope Bono didn't lie on that account. I could definitely deal with that.

The Crazy Tonight > Boots transition still bugs me. However, I haven't messed about with the tracklist yet - you got any recommendations there, Ax?

I guess I won't skip it after some time.
i skipped it on my 2nd, then didn't, now i even deleted it from a playlist.

and i probably won't skip it eventually either. there is almost nothing on a u2 album that i skip regularly, even drivel like miami and red light

Right. I have an issue with the NLOTH2 lyrics. The first, oh, half or so is fine, as you can see.

I know a girl,
Who's like the sea,
I watch her changing everyday for me

Oh yeah. Whoa whoa whoa whoa-OOOOH

One day she's still,
The next she swells
I (can) hear the universe in her seashells

Oh yeah. Whoa whoa whoa whoa-OOOOH

No line on the horizon
No line
No line on the horizon

I know a girl
Holding her heart
She said infinity's a great place to go
No, no
You know its gonna be all low (eh?)

As you can see, fairly easy to hear and understand. Then, we have the next travesty of a verse. Now I tried VERY hard to understand what he was saying, but this was the best I could come up with.

They let me soap in dough
Hey case soda lover
I wanna penis sing
Doh say oh no

WTF Bono. WTF. :tsk:

The cynic in me says this is too awesome to be true.
