The Positive U2 Thread

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
A lot of people here complain about the negativity especially towards the album delay. I thought we could have a thread where we list what U2 is the best at. So list what you think U2 was or is the best at. Anything from they made the best song ever to Bono had the best mullet. Maybe this will show that everyone has some positive thoughts about U2.

I'll start.

Best song ever written: Walk To The Water
Best encore at a concert: Zoomerang Leg on ZooTV
Best unreleased song: Be There
Best song about food or drink: The Martini Song
Best onstage character: MacPhisto
Best remastered album (with additional material) : The Joshua Tree
Best Robin Williams impersonator: Bono

Now you. :)

I second your choice for best song ever written by U2.

That question is easy. Radiohead. Who cares if they don't sell as many records or win as many Grammys. OK Computer is THE rock album of the 90's. (The Bends was a warmup, but excellent nonetheless). And in the 2000's, they did it again with In Rainbows. (Kid A--let's face it--is rock music for another century in the distant future altogether.) U2 only wish they could come close to the songwriting perfection on In Rainbows.

Only radiohead can match coldplay for snooze

Thanks, I'll have to look it up...
I have it if you still need it, 5/10/93 Rotterdam :)

lets see...

-U2 - check
-Sarcasm - check
-Arguing - check
-Radiohead - check

this thread is one Coldplay reference away from 5 stars!

That's just the best thing about U2, they got the greatest bunch of sarcastic asses as fans  and all together at interference!

and at least they're not half dead on drugs/alcohol (yet)

:hmm: could be..

nah, in all seriousness... I think the best thing about U2... it has to be the Liechtenstein gig, too damn awesome! NOTHING can top that!

I'd simply like to know what bands tourist would put ahead of U2 in the 90's and 00's....it's not a complicated question.

Me personally? Even more bands that I liked in the 90s more than U2: Oasis, Sunny Day Real Estate, Radiohead (The Bends and OK Computer are two of the best albums of the 90s), and quite a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head (in addition to the two I mentioned earlier).

Again, as for 00s, it's hard to say, but let's just say the list of what I think is better than U2 of this decade is probably 20x as long (of longer) than my list of the 90s.

U2 need to come to the party this time else....

they will no longer be allowed in the VIP area.

Generation Y have changed the rules and U2 need to morph themselves to a band that the kiddies can love.

- Variety of genres covered rivalled only be The Beatles or Bowie

a friend of mine had a presentation on music in his college, and the speaker talked about ALL the band possible, their musical conecttions and what group are they in... but He didn't saw U2 or Queen, and he asked why... so the guy speaking said:

"because those are the only 2 bands that cannot be defined in a single type of music"

Well, MacBeth sucks.

McDonalds>>>>>>McPhisto>>>>>>>MacBeth

He is very wrong.

THE FIDDLER OF DOONEY

WHEN I play on my fiddle in Dooney.
Folk dance like a wave of the sea;
My cousin is priest in Kilvarnet,
My brother in Mocharabuiee.

I passed my brother and cousin:
They read in their books of prayer;
I read in my book of songs
I bought at the Sligo fair.

When we come at the end of time
To Peter sitting in state,
He will smile on the three old spirits,
But call me first through the gate;

For the good are always the merry,

Save by an evil chance,
And the merry love the fiddle,
And the merry love to dance:

And when the folk there spy me,
They will all come up to me,
With 'Here is the fiddler of Dooney!'
And dance like a wave of the sea.

U2 is the best live band I've ever seen. That's why I like them.

I agree.
However, I attended the Depeche Mode concert at the Rose Bowl in 1988 for the Music For The Masses Tour and I would say that it would be just as good. DM, never duplicated that performance as U2 has in various shows.

Agree, Depeche Mode were a brilliant live band. The live versions of Somebody, Master and Servant and Strange Love as magnificent.

U2 of course have this wall of sound. I am suprised other bands haven't tried to rip off their sound.

Simple Minds and A Big Country are the only ones I can remember who have treid.
