Why an early 2009 release makes sense - commercially

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I really don't know who to trust or what to believe any more, but Hot Press seems to be a source close to U2, so I hope they are right. Single in January, album late February or early March would be my guess.

So you are reiterating the exact information in every single article we have heard since the delay came out.

Brilliant.

I can see it, but I wouldn't bet on it. If Bono is to be trusted, I'm going with early February for the single, late March for the album. And let's not twist his words; he did say that he wanted 2009 to be their year. They want to DOMINATE 2009, which means starting early and touring all the way through.

However, this is just what he wants. Larry may have different wishes.

So maybe I reading it wrong. So you think the SINGLE will come out sometime in Feb? That would actually make more sense then the album. Okay, I get it now.

You make a good point about the tour. It would certainly keep them in the spotlight for a while...especially an early promo tour for the album release on talk shows and things like that.

HA!

You should get a hobbie like I did....alcoholism. It helps douse out your hopes in a nice sudsy and bubbly way.

I don't think you should be promoting alcoholism on this site.

Firstly it goes against everything U2 stand for seeing as half the band are trying to fight their addictions using extensive medical care.

Secondly there are people younger than 21 on this site who are very easily influenced.

...Thirdly, who needs me to promote alcoholism when the American Beer companies are doing such a great job doing it themselves by consistently putting out the most creative and funny commercials year after year.

Seriously though, it does help get through a terrible football season. Okay, I'll stop.

i think that people in here are being sarcastic/silly when they speak of drinking so don't take what people say literally. In fact very few of us are ever serious.. :D

umm... i would like to know where you are getting the info that the band are fighting any kind of addiction let alone with medical care. You are reaching here unless you can back it up with any kind of a source which I don't see so stating something this outlandish shouldn't be brought up.

Thanks a bunch for the link, I really appreciate it...

...but I'm calling MAJOR bullshit on this source.

That would mean that they'd be releasing the single to radio sometime in the beginning of January, and even that would only yield MAYBE a month between
a single release and an album release. Total bullshit.

Most major artists give ATLEAST 6-8 weeks or more to allow the single to marinate on the radio before letting the album go public.

I think we'll see a mid to late March or early April release like we did with POP.

Maybe they're trying to do something different with this release?

Seriously a single in January (beginning or late) and an album in Late February/Early March it's not that impossible. Plus in this day and age a single can be released in a day; so it's not that impossible.

I still say March for the album though; hopefully early March

As Bono said, 2009 would be their year - if they plan to tour. Plus it would mean a single very early and an album out by March when the tour is said to start.

But it all has to be approved by Larry and Adam.

Maybe we'll get Single : January, Album: March, Tour (Starting in Europe): Late May (so they can play stadiums easier)

Well in all fairness to Mr. Bottle....(pun intended) There are plenty of references in their songs regarding addictions be it alcohol or pill. The most recent and abundantly OBVIOUS was XANAX AND WINE. Whether or not the song is autobiographical or more of a commentary on rock stars and celebrities and the lives they live is yet to be determined. But, Bono likes to let it kind of teeter on the edge of both sometimes and slightly blur the lines a bit so that you can't tell which one he's referring to.

But the references ARE there.

I saw an article saying Universal is not happy about this, but when I tried to find it today it was no longer there.
I think it was posted on Billboard - but that article has been removed.
Go figure.
U2 has alot of power. Or the article was bogus and Universal had them pull it.
That's power too.

That's definitely an optimistic view, but quite possible considering the information we currently have.

I am well aware of many references in their songs to addictions and such but no one can actually claim that it is based on their lives.

IMO, hardly any of their songs are directly autobiographical. More like metaphors and abstract views, biographical to some degree on others, life in general etc.. No one can say that they had dealt with these issues because it's not known. Simple as that..

Mr. Bottle states it as fact in his post and it's just not. It definitely comes across that way.

Bono also wrote a song about dying, is he dead? He wrote a song about the Playboy Mansion, has he actually been there? He's written songs about heaven, has he been there?

 Interesting. I remember the article.

This is where U2 live -- a four-piece in a room, struggling to get it right.

In the studio and in real life!"

Says someone who seems drunk whenever he's posting on this site.

And Co-Exist  NOT!!!! is back with the personal insults after taking his blah, blah, blah, moral high ground and saying he will never addess me again. Oh the pain, the humilition and yet I must look.

I am the Goldfinger to your Pussy Galore.

 Interesting. I remember the article.

Great summation.

Nobody does boring, bland summations quite like you. You have made it an Art form. In the same way Van Gough paints.

And in summation to the summary, I summarise the situation to be sumarised.

Bottle Bono, you are a totally rude IDIOT.

I report you now and I give you not more than a couple of days on this board.

It's not only your behavious here, but you also chose to troll PLEBA with your childish and rude comments.

I don't care if the mods ban me, too, because of the statment I just made, because it's true.

lol well I am just sick of seeing fans trying to do the business math for U2! As it is PaulMcG is all about tha $ :crack:

I'd love to do all math things lol! I have to do it every day on a sheet of paper but that's in the end quite annoying!

I think hating Paul McGuinness is juvenile. He's doing his job.

"He's only concerned about money!"

No, he's doing his job. He's trying to make sure his band's music reaches the maximum amount of people as possible. You might focus on money, but that's because the two are directly related.

A change of management? You want a manager that says what? "Hey, let's just drop the album on iTunes on Thursday, September 18, 2008 and who gives a shit who knows about it? It's about the music, duuuuuude. Pass the bong."

McGuinness is doing his job. The band has explained the delay as for artistic reasons, not commercial ones. And if McGuinness does indeed get the album pushed back to November of next year, then God bless him. That's his job.

:up::up:

I had a dream that a unicorn called Bono an idiot. I thought it was ZooTV all over again.

 Yes unicorns are capable of the most incredible things. Nice dream.

Btw, I'll try no to call anyone an idiot again, but I was just sooo annoyed because I feel personally harrassed by this guy. I'm usually not that aggressive. No back on topic.

two quick points...

1. I don't go out of my way to defend those who don't deserve a defense, especially those who annoy the hell out of others. I think you know who I'm talking about.

and 2. MANY of their songs are autobiographical. I don't have time to list them all but there are many. Are we talking about the SAME U2? or are you thinking of another band???

My initial response was to address someone's post asking where are the references towards addiction suffered by band members. I thought my response was not only accurate but an appropriate response. THE REFERENCES ARE THERE. If you want CONCRETE proof then ask Bono. :D

well... i do listen to the same U2 and if you can't list the songs that are then how can you say they are autobiographical, this is just your opinion at this point. Unless you are in the band or a family member would you even know this for sure. Everyone has a different take on what the song could mean so unless you are Bono then no one knows for sure..

that is what I am saying, hence the IMO. Everyone has their opinion on what the songs are and what they may refer to.. So I am guessing that noone including me will really agree otherwise.. agree to disagree simple as that.

never claimed that ur response was appropriate or not.. frankly I could care less.
