You could only get it trough a special event, usually held in america and japan only, but holland got a few...

Ahh, right, yeah, I vaguely remember that.

Oh yeah, may I just remind everyone:

DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE RUGBY!!!

I just accidentally saw the half-time score, but that's not too bad. I can live. Any more, though? No!

Fucking delayed coverage ...!

That's the one.

God, for a sports mad state, TV coverage is shit in Victoria. The rugby's delayed by hours, while the Tigers vs Lions game is delayed by half an hour or so. We're near the end of the third quarter right now.

If I still feel bad on Monday, I'll have to anyway so I can get permission to skip a day.

Wow, you need permission at TAFE? Got to love lax universities. You only need a medical certificate for missing tutorials if you're below the minimum attendance - which in History courses is merely half the tutes, so the odds that you'll be below that threshold are very low.

Tafe is lax too, but I feel like I should make sure this time around, you know, just in case.

Rugby, what about rugby?

First game of the Bledisloe Cup between New Zealand and Australia is underway right now - or may have just finished. However, coverage of the game doesn't start for 2.5 hours here in Victoria.

And, well, rugby is the closest thing to a religion I have and I haven't seen the All Blacks play at all this year, so I don't want the game blown for me. I simply find sport of any sort too dull to watch if I already know the result.

Yeah, went to check the scores, but I won't tell you anything.

Well, at least you've got the Tiges/Lions game - that actually looks pretty interesting right now. We have the Swans/Crows match which has been a no-show for the night.

Actually, it's really only Melbourne University that's so lax. At the University of Queensland, 10% of our overall mark for each course was actually based on tutorial attendance. Obviously, the only way to get the full 10% was to go to all tutes - or to have medical certificates for those you miss. At Melbourne, you simply need to meet the threshold attendance; if you don't, your work isn't marked, while if you do, your work is marked.

 our uni is even more lax, you don't have to show up at all.
as long as you make the exams  but it's your own money you're wasting!

why don't they cover it live there then? seems a bit cross to me!

Yeah, the Lions are really charging ahead at the end of the third quarter though. My mother should be happy. And, well, I win either way. I want Richmond to win, but I've been proclaiming all week that since I want them to win, Brisbane will - thus if the Lions win, I get the satisfaction of being right.

In any case, the Fitzroy Lions are my second team. Fuck this Brisbane bullshit, though.

There's no attendance requirement at all for lectures, just for the tutorials. I try to go to all tutorials since they tend to be useful anyway, but I'll skip lectures fairly frequently if I don't enjoy them.

Because apparently rugby rates so poorly in Victoria that they'd rather show the fuckin' Princess Diaries 2 than broadcast the NATIONAL TEAM live. Or they've done a deal with pay TV to not broadcast it live here. Either way, it's absolutely ridiculous.

Looking at the real time score (god, I wish it was on TV!) it's shaping up for a ripper of an ending. So keep an eye on it. I'm tense just looking at the numbers slightly changing on a Flash scoreboard.

Haha, well that whole merge still has its opposition. I don't think it did the AFL much good with the Lions getting three in a row earlier in the decade, either. People are still too stupid over there to give a shit.

Ax would probably have better answers, but I'd say it's just because Rugby of any kind isn't as popular in Victoria and the states west of it than it is in NSW and QLD.

I wonder how much of it is relative unpopularity and how much of it is an under-the-table deal with Fox Sports. Not having lived here back in the late 1990s when even New Zealand vs South Africa was live in Queensland, I don't know if this sort of stuff USED to be live or anything.

I could understand if the rugby were delayed due to AFL coverage. That's fair enough. But what 7's showing instead of the rugby is hardly high-rating. The Vicar Of Dibley re-runs? Give me a break. You can't tell me that's going to get higher viewership in Victoria than the NATIONAL BLOODY TEAM. So that's why I suspect something's happened under the table between 7, Fox Sports, and the ARU.

Ooh, OK. I've turned it off for now as I'd honestly rather listen to Porcupine Tree than watch Brisbane surge 30 points in front while the dumb-as-shit commentator calls a goal as being scored when it's obviously only a behind. But I'll put it back on for the end of the game.

I just won't go for Brisbane since they're a Queensland team, so I'll stick with saying I support the Fitzroy Lions. Instead of establishing this second Queensland team, how about they send the Lions back home and make this new team the only Queensland team? That'd be nice. It's not as if the second team is going to rope many more banana benders into the sport anyway.

sounds a pretty poor excuse  here they FIGHT over the broadcasting rights for football!

Channel 7 is a pretty poor excuse for a TV network! Honestly, pay TV just has a total stranglehold over most live sport now, so if you only have free-to-air like I do, you're pretty fucked. Hell, even with the cricket, this country's only truly national sport, you can't watch games featuring Australia live on free-to-air unless they're actually being played in Australia.

(The only exception is the Ashes between Australia and England, since the series is so popular that there would be a revolt if it weren't broadcast live from England.)

You should really put it on. It's going to get closer than you think. I don't think it's over yet, either.

Fair enough on not going for Brisbane, but the second idea is kind of ridiculous. Not that I wasn't expecting it from you, though.

Just put it back on. 14.5 minutes to go, Richmond just kicked a goal and it's 93-85.

Oh, I know it's an utterly ridiculous idea, and frankly Melbourne needs less teams rather than more. But I want to go for Fitzroy!

Holy god! I turned it off when it was Brisbane 91 - 62 Richmond. Now it's Brisbane 93 - 91 Richmond!

COME ON, TIGERS!

104-93 to the Tigers! My mother must've been weeping at this point!

Hey Bonnie, what are the implications of this game? I know my mother fears that the Lions have to win if they want to have any chance of making the finals, but earlier the commentators mentioned that the Lions had a chance of making the top four. And do Richmond have a chance to even make the eight at all?
