Hey Nick we all know you're the contrarian view guy. But suggesting Bono doesn't keep himself highly educated on the matters of the day is just asinine.

Disagree with him, think he need to "stick to playing music maaaaan" ? Sure, fine, whatever. Matters of opinion.

Suggesting the guy just speaks out of his ass and doesn't actually educate himself on these issues before he speaks about them is just stupid.

Actually, what I said was I hope he was smart enough NOT to talk about something he probably doesn't know much about.

I didn't say he wasn't up to speed on most of the things he chooses to comment on. Actually he's one of the most informed celebrities out there on the issues he's most passionate about. In fact I can't think of a celebrity more informed than Bono (and make no mistake almost all celebrities sound like idiots when they talk about their pet causes). Bono (along with possibly Angelina Jolie) is almost the only one who sounds like he's read a book.

So I think he's on firm ground talking about human rights and repression of minorities in general. But in terms of the specific outcome of this case, I'm not sure he's qualified.

Perhaps 99 percent are protesting non-violently.

3 pages in and already fighting. Can't even come together on this?

Seriously -- this is the main issue --. ***People saying "you or someone else isn't qualified to speak out on the issues at hand." *** that's the problem. Because you can't have the leader of the free world (someone else who doesn't read books) be able to affect every issue in the world and then tell me or you or Jemele Hill she doesn't know anything. Stick to what you do. But the people that are in charge they don't know shit either! We're all misinformed just as much as the experts. Who decides who is smart and dumb?

Bono , Me, You, The idiot Trump voter, The dumb Bernie voter, the fucking annoying Clinton voter, a nobel prize winner, a plumber, a firefighter, every body you can see with your eyes -- has an opinion on things.

Who do you think is protesting right now?

I keep hearing this "stick to stuff" mostly from white people and that's the wrong fucking attitude. We're all humans. And it's this ugly shit that gets stuff done. I don't want the U2 show cancelled. But maybe this one show getting cancelled will lead to something better. Probably not. But one thing Bono and me shouldn't do is shut the fuck up about it. It's time to get louder.

u2 are Deeply saddened at what has happened in St. Louis and having to cancel our show tonight….I found myself reading Dr. King’s speech from the National Cathedral and asking myself is this 1968 or 2017? - Bono
“Human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability….we are coming to ask America to be true to the huge promissory note that it signed years ago. And we are coming to engage in dramatic nonviolent action, to call attention to the gulf between promise and fulfillment; to make the invisible visible.”
Yep. Pretty much exactly the type of sentiment I thought Bono would put out there.

Via MLK's words, a general reaffirmation of U2's commitment to human and civil rights, and a restatement of Bono's long standing commitment to nonviolence.

Come together on what?

I think most people agree U2 did the sensible thing in cancelling the show because of the violence. They have the safety of their audience to think about.

Absolutely heartbroken at the news and the entire situation. We've planned this trip for months and travelled a great distance to experience this but totally appreciate the gravity of what's going on. Praying for all the families involved and that St. Louis stays safe
Sorry you're missing out.. I hope you're able to enjoy your trip otherwise, and get a chance to see the band again, next year.

Thanks RD. I'm sure they'll be around our neck of the woods again. Even though our population is relatively small, we in Canada have been pretty spoiled with the number of shows we've been privileged to enjoy. I have a feeling the next couple of shows will be extra good and I envy the lucky fans that will get to see them. Peace and love
