Getting a Mac. Questions have I.

OK, I'm getting an iMac. I currently havea Windows PC. Now, I have a shit load of music on my PC, so will I be able to access that music from the Mac if I set up some kind of network between the two? And will my iPod work on both machines?

Also, I have a wired router for the PC. I planned on putting the Mac in a different room. What do I need to make the network "wireless" so I can get the Mac online?

Good Choice on a Mac!
As long as you have itunes on your PC then you're good, are you going to keep your pc? I have a Mac and yes it's the best thing I bought! Ok Here's what you need...
If you want wireless then here's what you need...

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...&nclm=Wireless

Or just go to the Mac/Apple Store and buy the Mac from there and ask what you need for the internet connection...It is much easier going there then ordering online because the people there are very inteligent about Macs..

Re: Getting a Mac. Questions have I.

You can just set up a shared folder on the Windows machine then browse to it on OSX. Found some directions.
http://macs.about.com/cs/tipstutoria...sx_sharing.htm
Or if you use iTunes all your music is in it, you can share your iTunes library over the network from within the program.

The ipod will work, are you going to want to keep the ipod's library synced with both machines or does the music stay on the PC?

You could get a Wireless access point for your router, something like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...893666?ie=UTF8
Or just get a new router with wireless, they're so cheap now.

btw, your ipod will work on both

with the older types (where you bought a specific type, windows or mac) you'd have to convert but the newer ones just use fat32 which is compatible with both.

Got the Mac up and running, wireless network is sweet.

Now, does a Mac not use regular PC speakers? I tried to hook speaker up, but they didn't work. Do I need special Mac speakers?

Macs have a headphone jack for audio out. You'll need speakers with a standard miniplug connection.

I suggest these.

They sound REALLY, REALLY good.

The nice thing about these is the ease with which you can connect an iPod, or portable CD player to them as well.

They sound REALLY, REALLY good.

I saw those JBL speakers, and I do like them, but I'm /ooking for a budget set.

I picked up a cheap set of 2.1 speaker for $25. They aren't very loud, but they work well enough. I used the headphone jack as instructed. Thanks.
