I love this thread!!!
And in that movie, Tom Cruise tussles around in the living room with a lot of the other greaser kids. The signs are there, folks!

Wow, this picture brings up another very serious question has Ralph Macchio had his sex change yet?

Now there is a boy who was fighting his true self for WAY too long. A word of advice, Ralph, changing your last name to 'macho' is not the best method of proving your not gay ...

Seriously though - did the Karate Kid die? I haven't seen him in years. I bet that guy with the feathered hair finally 'swept the leg'.

so if Tom Cruise wins, and is the Top Gun, who, then, is his Bottom Gun?

[q]Iceman: You can be my wingman any time.
Maverick: Bullshit! You can be mine. [/q]

i suppose i have some problems, however, with how the film glamorizes unsafe sex. this was 1986. we well knew what AIDS was:

[q]Iceman: You two really are cowboys.
Maverick: What's your problem, Kazanski?
Iceman: You're everyone's problem. That's because every time you go up in the air, you're unsafe. I don't like you because you're dangerous.
Maverick: That's right! Ice... man. I am dangerous.[/q]

and note: Goose dies. metaphor? indeed.

more:

[q]Maverick: Just want to serve my country, be the best pilot in the Navy, sir.
Stinger: Don't screw around with me Maverick. You're a hell of an instinctive pilot. Maybe too good. I'd like to bust your butt but I can't.[/q]

[q][watching a video of planes being shot down]
Wolfman: This gives me a hard on.
Hollywood: Don't tease me. [/q]

[q]Slider: Goose who's butt did you kiss to get in here anyway?
Goose: The list is long, but distinguished.
Slider: Yeah, well so is my Johnson.[/q]

There has been some mockery of Patrick Swayze in this thread that I am not comfortable with. True, its been subtle, but its mockery none the less.

Let us not forget Roadhouse.

Even Rambo took lessons from Dalton:

Jed Eckert: It's kind of strange, isn't it? How the mountains pay us no attention at all. You laugh or you cry... The wind just keeps on blowing.

Am I the only person noticing that this thread shared a similar career arch with Val Kilmer.

Poor Kelly McGillis - 25 years later, she's just known as Top Gun Leading Lady?

I'd be all "Hellloooo, assholes, I was in Witness! and .... uh ... other movies since then!"
