This is terribly sad.

Director John Hughes dies at 59

'Breakfast Club,' 'Ferris Bueller' helmer had a heart attack

Staff report

Aug 6, 2009, 04:44 PM ET
John Hughes, director of "The Breakfast Club," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and "Home Alone," died of a heart attack Thursday. He was 59.

Hughes died while taking a morning walk during a trip to Manhattan to visit family.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.

Heart attack? He only just now found out about Goldblum?

Holy shit.

I wish he didn't go into that self-imposed exile either. The guy was behind some of my favorite movies from the '80s (Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, Planes, Trains..., and Vacation).

That's too bad.

I'm very sad about this. I'm especially thinking of the movies he made with John Candy. John Candy was my late brother Jimmy's favorite actor, so this is all very emotional for me.

And why is "True" by Spandau Ballet going through my head???

The New York Times has this filmography. Amazing amount of work he was involved with.

So sad. I have seen practically all his movies except a couple.
