Sad death, sadder political machinations.
linkTwelve-year-old Yazan Juhar was stabbed to death during a fight with settlers, Palestinian sources reported Wednesday evening.
The clash took place next to Kfar Krayot, north of the West Bank settlement of Ofra. Police are on the scene.
The stabbed boy was taken to a hospital in Nablus, where he died of his wounds.
According to the Palestinian account, Juhar and his cousin Hamza went to a stream near the village of Krayot in order to fly kites, at which point four settlers attacked them, and one stabbed the 12-year-old.
Despite the fact that the fight took place at 6:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. EDT), the police were only notified three hours later. Police are investigating the crime and checking the Palestinian account.
Hamza Juhar told Ynet, "We were flying kites when all of sudden we saw four settlers from afar getting closer to us. We started to run, but as we did, I saw one settler, a tall man with a large body, stab Yazan in the neck."
Hamza said he could identify the killer. He was already questioned by Palestinian police officers.
The boys' uncle, Abu Mahyoub, told Ynet that this was not the first time that settlers have attacked villagers and their property. Two years ago, an 18-year-old was murdered after chasing his runaway sheep, he said.
"The settlers continually come by on foot or by horse and beat up residents, damage their homes and the village’s well," Mahyoub said. "My son who was saved saw the settler bully, and we’re asking the Israelis, if they are serious, to allow Hamza to identify him."
The Yesh Din legal group has called on the police to proceed with a speedy and responsible investigation into the stabbing
And then later on the truth emerges
linkA 12-year-old Palestinian boy was stabbed to death Wednesday night in the West Bank village of Krayout in an incident apparently connected to an ongoing feud between local Palestinian clans.
Earlier, Palestinian sources had reported that the boy was killed in a brawl that erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli settlers who had entered the village from the nearby settlement of Shiloh, Army Radio reported.
However, Palestinian officials soon admitted to IDF officers that the incident was related to an inter-clan dispute.
Sad death, sadder political machinations.
