there is a story , which Bono and Edge confirmed on Off the Record with Dave Stewart, that they tried bringing in 2 female singers in the bands early days.

Does anyone have any more info regarding this? names? who were these two? schoolmates? did they actually try out any songs together? how long did they 'play' together? what phase of the band- feedback days? the hype? or as u2?

Thanks kindly

It's in U2 by U2. One played the flute. They asked Edge to sing because they said "All Bono does is shout." Edge said Bono was great and scurried away.

:reject: some rumors in Brazil said that a Dutch girl called Alicia Pink, made some backing during Boy sessions. She, after, lived in Brazil, where she was a singer from the punk brazilian band Gang 90. Actually, it's, still, a rumor ...

To put it another way, if the Hype were the Silver Beatles, then Feedback were the Quarrymen. In that respect it seems pointless to make any meaningful comparisons with the band we've come to know and love.

For one, they had two female backing singers in their ranks. One was Stella McCormick, a sister of former Hot Press journalist Neil McCormick and a school friend of U2. The other, Orla Dunne, also a school friend, played the flute! ...
