In my twelve years as a U2 fan, I've always wondered why Edge plays bass on "40" and Adam plays guitar. Is it this way on the album version, or only when they played it live? And why do they do it?

Anyone know this? I've never seen the answer to this question anywhere....
 
When the song was originally recorded, it was only Bono and Edge in the studio because it was a last second recording. Edge came up with the bass part, and since it is the melody, I guess that is why he played it in concert. I always thought it was cool when they switched it up.
