YouTube - U2 - A Celebration

I know I should've given this 8. I really should've. But ... I couldn't help myself. 9. I have a soft spot for this song even if U2 supposedly hate it now.

10 out of 10. One of the reasons why I worship U2 is A Celebration. It features possibly my favourite ever Edge guitar line, has one of my favourite U2 videos, it has the lot. I love this song.

Lyric wise it is very strange . But the tune is well played out. A cross between rock and 80´s style new-wave. I rate it a 7.

A Celebration lyrics

Shake! Shake!

Don't go
I believe in a celebration
I believe you set me free
I believe you can loose this chains
I believe you can dance with me
Dance with me

Shake! Shake!
Shake! Shake!

I believe in the third world war
I believe in the atomic bomb
I believe in the powers that be
But they won't overpower me

And, and you can go there too
And, and you can go go go go

Shake! Shake!
Shake! Shake!

And we don't have the time
And everything goes 'round and 'round
And we don't have the time
To watch the world go tumbling down

Go! Go!

I believe in the bells of Christ's Church
Ringing for this land
I believe in the cells of Mount Joy
Doesn't understand

And, and you can go there too
And, and you can go go go go

I believe in the walls of Jericho (And you...)
I believe they're coming down (Can go there too)
I belive in this city's children (And you... )
I believe the trumpet's sound (can go go go go)

And you can go there too
And you can go go go go...

I believe in what I'm doing
What am I doing here...

A hilarious song; both the lyrics and the film clip. Dunno what the hell it is about, but it sounds good. Given it seems that U2 ran out of material for the War album (evidence: Red Light) I'd bet they wished they had not already released it when they were finalising the album. 7 out of 10.

Well those lyrics really are strange. But it is a good song, it's really joyfull. 7.

Had they finished this song in time, it would have been one of the stand-out tracks on October. Had they held the song back, it would have been one of the stand-out tracks on War (or at least it could have replaced "Red Light"). Instead, they released it as a stand-alone single, it did basically nothing, and this very decent song is lost forever in the lower catacombs of U2's catalog. Such a shame that more people know Red Light than A Celebration.
