I still cannot imagine how this widget thing will work. Is it something interactive, like a video game?

Just imagine a real long music video playing through the entire length of the album with different visuals, lyrics, and stuff that could change and adjust to each song. Its actually such an obvious and genius idea that I don't understand why no one has thought of it before.

Chalk it up there with all of those other "Why didn't I think of that?" stuff.

surprising.

my Borders is usually pretty good about that stuff.

its going to take a bit of time. the difference with magazines like Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly as opposed to Q is that they have several presses around the country to facilitate shipping. Sorta like how we are able to get today's New York Times in Los Angeles, etc.

Q doesn't do this, they print them all in the UK and ship them via airmail, which accounts for the added upc sticker atop the printed upc, and the slow turnaround time.

I used to work at Borders in Portland, and my first duty every morning was to open 10-15 massive boxes of magazines and shelve them. The good news here is that one of my best friends still works there doing just that, and she has promised to let me know as soon as she sees "bono with eyeliner on q" in any of the boxes.

So i will hopefully know right away when that store gets them on the shelf. Which should be within a 1-2 day period of all the other locations. (its not all that accurate really)

but she's on the lookout and i'll post here when she tells me its in the store.

spies on the inside! wahoo!

I was thinking the same thing when I read that part of the article, yes genius idea! It really would be an amazing thing if they were able to do that. I'm already visualizing something that flows with subtle transitions, not like watching 12 seperate videos in a row.

Thats exactly what I got out of it. The more I think about it the more it gets me excited to see it. Its going to be a tough feat to put together a solid hour of visuals though, so I hope they enlist the help of some talented folks.

Exactly. And I think if anyone could do it they could.

Now if they don't do this at all... someone's gonna steal our idea :shifty:

The new album is going to sync up with Wizard of Oz backwards--just you wait! ;)

It seems possible to me that this is the idea behind the Corbijn film. The entire album sequence set to film. The flow of the visuals follows the songs.

Edit: although given the fact that U2 are finishing/have finished the album at the 11th hour, I guess this isn't strictly possible.

I don't think it's big deal... I'm sure there's more than album-long footage made... so it's just "cut and edit" to synch with the album...

While were at it....Rick Rubin was actually working with U2 on spiderman...U2 fired Rubin...Lanois and Eno came up with No Line On The Horizon (the musical)...so expect the dvd to be like sweenie todd

Thats a fantastic idea by Bono...but I'm shocked no one else has come up with that before.

It's close to the idea that Michael Nesmith came up with in the 70s about people reading a novel that he wrote along with his album. He did two albums like that, "The Prison" and "The Garden." It's pretty fun to do.

wow lucky you!

i'm usually busy doing other stuff like working (writing/reading) or cooking/cleaning and i have the music playing in the background, unless i'm driving - but then i really just need to be watching the road! haha ;)

That's why I mostly listen to new albums at night, when all my work is done because I need a "free head" to really get into the music. I cannot listen to music when I'm working, writing or reading, I can only concentrate on one thing. When I'm cooking/eating, I listen to music as well, but mostly to the radio.

What I thought most about Larry's section actually was that its a shame that the four don't get to socialise as much as they used to like 4 friends, rather than just being colleagues. So much for the after-show parties I suppose!

Sorry i didnt buy the mag because im a poor humble student, what did Larry say ?

I can't really make my mind up about Larry. On one hand he comes across as a very frustrating person to work with due to being so cautious or reluctant to change from a given path. On the other hand he does seem far more grounded than the others, or at least Bono and Edge, and seems like he's just a proper Irish geezer :D.

Oh yeh, the main thing that pissed me off about the Q article though was the way in which Bono and Edge dodged and glossed over the questions about the Netherlands/tax evasion thing, as if they were like bad politicians instead of giving a firm answer with some kind of conviction.

I'd respect them a lot more about it if they just said 'yeh look we moved the money cos too much was going on tax, we're human, we hate tax' rather than this bollocks about 'tax innovation'!! Sorry rant over :reject:

They had to do that in order for Edge to buy a yacht (midlife crisis boat) which off course is a extremely rock 'n roll

That is pretty much what they said and have said repeatedly so I don't get how you feel they dodged. What you don't seem to get is that U2 has never been big on defending themselves in the media. If they are comfortable with a decision then that's that. They gave their answer to this question ages ago and they are not going to get drawn in to rehashing it ad naseum. I can certainly respect that.
