There's nothing to be skeptical about with respect to the first part of my post, though. The person who Bono invited to listen is someone I know and trust, personally. I would vouch for their word that they have actually been invited to listen.

Does this mean we're going to get opinions soon?

Yes, I know. I participated in that discussion when it happened.

I'm sayin I'm hearing it from a second source. That's all..

[SOUND SKEPTICISM] He wasn't just wrong about the track order. And he wasn't just using a provisional title ("Tripoli") and saying the same thing he's saying now about having a contact in New York. It was that but also saying this at a time when "...orn" (everyone remember that? Jokingly calling it "Porn", etc.) appeared on a white board from an official source (hence, it was a known title BEFORE he posted that tracklisting) and was clearly Fez: Being Born. Not "Tripoli" (even though they were the same song). And if that wasn't enough, he also included Every Breaking Wave and Mercy and did NOT include White as Snow. Coincidentally enough...White as Snow? The ONE song not listed on that white board. Isn't that amazing? [/SOUND SKEPTICISM]

That's all...

Probably not more than the following:

The direct quote I received was "New stuff sounds awesome, but I can't say any more or they'll kill me"

(Emphasis mine lol)

Larry probably has his drumsticks sharpened in anticipation.

I tried to make a clear line of delineation between the two different sources.

The part about the private listening party I need no further confirmation on. It's legit. And it is 100% in line with what we think we know.. Ie, that no details are being allowed "out".

The second source, with the track list, should obviously be treated with caution, although he got some things right so there's that.

I temper that, however, with the knowledge that employees and people being invited to listen, such as the person mentioned at the outset, are under strict orders not to release any info. This casts no small amount of further doubt, in my mind.

So what's it all mean? I think it's safe to say that with all these listening invitations, we can rest assured that the album is mostly, if not completely, finished. Great news!

Yeah, do a little swing-a-ding but don't waste too much time on that shit, son, you're in NYC...do some NYC shit.

Dude. Don't you worry. I'm there for a wedding Saturday. Open bar. Click fucking clack. I figure I can recharge my batteries with a stroll on Sunday. maybe puke on the sidewalks, and then who knows?

I thought this guy was familiar for a reason. Good call.

That said, as ridiculous as some of these titles are, who cares? Go through U2's discography. There are dumb titles everywhere.

And it also jives with what Lanois said -- that there are songs he worked on. Every Breaking Wave and probably North Star (which has been cooked to death by this point) qualify there.

I'm not putting forward a ringing endorsement, but I'm not giving it the Mike Francesa hand wave either.

Wait... so the tracklist is real??? :hyper:

Like i said in the last thread. we're getting probably 10+ new U2 songs this year. and if you're not down with that then fuck you.

Really, really hope the album isn't called Manhattan. That's just fucking generic.

And if North Star is included, there's one weak-ass song already.

Manhattan is way better than Man or Solar at least.

Agreed on North Star. That would totally shit on everything we know about these supposedly interesting, self-contained recording sessions.

Unless by some nonexistent thread of hope they totally dumped the song and created an entirely new composition with the same title.

It's still a shit title, though.

We don't know, probably was reworked, and it has a nice melody.
Too soon to have opinions. :D

Everyone's starting to panic, in this thread and on RMT. And we haven't actually heard anything.

An Interference specialty.
