I have a theory that every woman who was in her young thirties at the start of the 1990s ranks MW in their top five U2 songs. Case in point: my mother.

Actually, I don't find the Shamu line hard to hear at all.

Then again, Bono's so poor at enunciation that you can really make of his lyrics whatever you want.

And I love how TTTYAATW is just sounding like total elevator music that I'm not paying attention to. Proves my point about it plodding through b-side territory and doing nothing. What a worthless snoozefest.

Does Bono sing "you've gotta make your thing sing" at some point in the latter half of TTTYAATW? Because I'd swear I just heard that; it's the only thing that's stood out.

I go back and forth on Ultraviolet. I used to adore it way back when I first heard the album.

It's lost a lot of its luster since then.

And I hate Bono's faux-emotional over-the-top delivery around "when I was all messed up and had opera in my head".

I remember when we could sleep on stoooooones
Now we liiiie together in whispers and moooans
When I was all fucked up
And I had opera in my heaaaad
Your love was a lightbulb
Hanging over my bed

ZooTV 1992, live from Stockholm = best version.

'Baby' existed as a term for a mature woman before 1998.

I think it's one of the best songs on the album.

It's less that and more that I can totally hear Justin Timberlake & Co. harmonising the chorus. Bono gets away with 'baby' in Spanish Eyes. But not here.

It could be "cornflakes, cornflakes, cornflakes" and I'd still hate it.

Yeah, it should have been "fucked up" instead of "messed up" on the album version, too.

Also, he should have actually said "motherfuckin rock and roll" in MOFO.
