All of my favorites have been mentioned, but even though I'll probably get flak for this....someone's gotta mention Prince.

How can anyone say that Keith Richards is one of the best guitarists of all time??? The guy plays rhythm guitar 95% of the time and tries to pass it off as lead. And the rhythm guitar that he plays isn't even all that fantastic, IMO. He's not that great folks, and definitely doesn't deserve to be up there with SRV and Gilmour and Townshend.

How could I possibly have forgotten to mention?

WILLIE NELSON
I heard him play/sing Townes Van Zandt's "marie" on the radio last night. Willie's unique style, his timing, has ALWAYS impressed me.
And one of the original "good davids", DAVID GILMOUR.
and Carlos and God(EC) and Rory
what everybody else said +some

Keith Richards might not be the most brilliant guitarist, but his sound and style are without a doubt his own, and much imitated... even today he's just plain cool

Conversely, someone like like Eddie Van Halen, who is/was a fantastic guiatrist, has a sound that now seems horrendously dated.

of course, this is just my opinion... worth no more than your own.
