if the red sox go .500 to finish the season, the yankees need to go 8-3 to tie, 9-2 to win.

if the red sox play at their season pace of winning 60% of their games, the yankees need to go 9-2 just to tie, 10-1 to win the division.

Anyway, I honestly don't believe the BoSox will collapse. They've got a good ballclub and usually deal with adversity pretty well. Besides, it would be great for baseball to have NY/Boston in the ALCS.
