not a single "hey headache caught bonds' homerun" joke in the entire thread.

The OOTS said:The real culprits to this prestigious record being broken is baseball...who turned a blind eye while their pockets were being filled. Hate the game...not the player.
The OOTS said:Bonds just followed the crowd. He could have been stopped in '98/'99 when records fell had baseball taken accountability for the increase in power numbers and realized the abnormalities in stats. Instead, they thought the baseballs were too tightly wound. Gimme a break! They deserve the fact their hallowed record is now held by a cheater.
Also, I highly doubt that if McGwire or Junior broke this record that people would scoff and snarl they way they do with Bonds.

Expansion and watering down of pitching, smaller ballparks, better conditioned players (regardless of steroid use), tightly would balls, steroids, etc all contributed to the increase in power. Could baseball have done more? Of course they could have - do you have the same contempt for the NFL's drug policy? You're a fool if you think it's any cleaner than baseball.

I honestly don't think anyone around here minded that it happened in Saint Loooeee.corianderstem said:
I still feel kind of bad for the Red Sox and their fans that they didn't win the World Series in Boston. That just didn't seem right.

The million dollar question is why are steroids the biggest thing in baseball, but no one cares about them in the NFL.

WildHoneyAlways said:The Sock actually won and extra inning game last night. A rare occurrence this season.
Can he DH? Cause the first time he has to throw a ball to the cutoff man, I'd be scared if I were a hot dog vendor in the stands.Dusty Bottoms said:Guess who is being called up today?
Rick "the Natural" Ankiel
After pounding homeruns in the minors all year long, he is finally getting the call up as an outfielder. This will definitely propel the Cardinals past the Cubs and Brewers. Is it psssible to win the MVP in a month and a half?
Congrats to the kid.
I was at game 5 of the ALCS and I think it may have eclipsed both game 7 and game 4 of the WS. The drama in game 7 ended by the 3rd inning, game 5 was a ridiculous 14 inning nail biter, and having standing room tix, I was physically and emotionally as drained as I've ever been at a sporting event, but so worth it.randhail said:I'm probably more than a little biased in saying this since I was there, but I think it would have been better to be at Game 7 of the ALCS than Game 4 of the World Series.

WildHoneyAlways said:Does being a "real fan" have anything to do with how many games you attend a year??

Can you go to a sporting event and NOT cheer for a game? Can you change loyalties to sports teams as often as you wish?
Is there any "right" answer?
WildHoneyAlways said:Then I asked her how many people go to actually watch the game and how many people go just to say that they went to a Cub game, pick up guys/girls, drink lots, etc. She didn't have much to say after that.
WildHoneyAlways said:I don't think game attendance has anything to do with fandom.
