According to U2's stage manager Rocko Reedy, The Police are reuniting for a tour in 2007! I've been sitting on this for a week now. Hope I don't get anyone in trouble by posting this! I was a huge Police fan back in high school before I got into U2, so it's been tough to keep this under wraps!

Here's the scoop...

I carpooled to and from the U2 concert in Honolulu last Saturday with Mandi and a group of her friends. I met Mandi in Chicago during Elevation and again in Hawaii back in April. We all met up at Wailana Coffee House in Honolulu early Sunday morning after the concert. One of Mandi's friends, her name is Nico, works in the music business and knows Rocko. She had some big news to tell us. Nico ran into Rocko last Saturday and talked with him for a little while. She asked him what his plans were now that the U2 tour was ending. Rocko said he'd find another band's tour to work next year. Then he dropped the bombshell. Rocko told her he's already been approached to work The Police reunion tour next year! That's pretty much all I know. Didn't hear any more details as to when this tour is supposed to start, where they'll be playing. And why they decided to reunite. This definitely came as a shock as I was under the impression those guys still don't get along very well. I remember reading an interview with Stewart or Andy saying a Police reunion would never happen. Expecting them to record another album together might be out of the question with the egos involved, but perhaps they could pull off a tour.
As big a Police fan as I was back in high school, I never did get to see them perform live in concert. Perhaps I'll finally get my chance next year! I'll be cautiously optimistic until I hear some official announcement made.

A dozen date stadium tour of the US(with No Doubt as the opening act) was booked in 2004. It was after their RoH induction and everyone was onboard, but Sting bailed just before he had to sign on the dotted line.

Sting then toured with a power trio and did a college concert tour playing mostly Poilice songs in the spring of 2005.

Go figure.

If this is true, it'll blow my mind, and I'll be the first in line for a ticket.

There have been rumors about this for eons, it seems like, even though Sting has been so adamant about The Police never getting back together. Maybe he realizes he ain't doing so hot as a solo artist these days? LOL.

Again, if this is true, hopefully they'll sound better than when they played at the RnH Hall of Fame. That was kinda painful... lol.

I thought they all didnt like each other very much these days?

I think Andy and Sting are still pretty good friends. Sting and Stewart may be another story, though. They all seemed to get along when they were inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame 3 years ago.

Screams nostalgia tour to me. I remember wanting so very desperately to see them in the early 80s, but now when I listen to their music (and I know this is blasphemous :uhoh: ) much of it seems very dated to me.

I think they were perfect for their time, but I don't think much of their music has aged well and for me going to see them would feel as if I was trying to recapture my young adulthood and that thought kind of makes me squirm.

But I won't say they shouldn't do it. If they want to do it and people want to see them I hope they do it and do it well enough to make everyone happy.

I was never a fan during the hype in the early 80s, especially working at a record store in L.A. They played live at Hollywood Park, an outdoor horse racetrack. It was a big event, but I had no interest in going. If they reunite, it might be worth checking out :hmm: That is, if it's affordable

Simply amazing! But I think a new Sting studio album is due in 2007. Maybe he will put that off for another year, but then that would make it five years in between releases. Really though, are you sure this person isn't pulling your leg?

Sting did really well, playing a lot of the old Police songs on his Broken Music tour. About half the set was Police songs, including a "Next You" which had not been played on a regular basis like this since the tour for Regatta De Blanc.

I have a hard time believing this is really going to happen, but its technically still possible. Perhaps when Sting saw all the old video that Stewart had recorded back in the day and put together for his movie, it moved over the top in terms of agreeing to reunite. Andy Summers just released a book as well.

If they do tour, I hope they do the "sound mix" like they did on their first 3 tours where Andy Summers guitar was much higher in the mix than it was on the last two tours the police did.

Anyways, here is some great live stuff from youtube from the Police's early days:

There was some really good stuff from the NewCastle Gateshead show which had U2 opening for the Police, but it seems to have been removed from youtube.

I would love to go to this. I have fond memories of the "Synchonicity" tour.

Which show or shows did you see on that tour?

This would be great!

I have fond memories of watching a lot of Police videos&all those hilarious documentaries they did with my brother  :sigh: we laughed a lot at those!

I absolutely loved seeing Sting and The Police back in the 80's ... They were AWESOME !!
If this tour actually does happen (here in the USA) ... I am so-ooo gonna be there !!

The cost for tickets will not make any difference ... I'll pay whatever the price to see them perform again !!

I'd be there. I saw the LA screening of Stewart Copelands Documentary "Everyone Stares". I would love to experience them live!!!!

Could have gone to Gateshead in '82 to see them in concert but my 'arl fella (Dad) said I was too young.........14 I was then.Too young my arse! Support acts that day? The Beat,Lords Of The New Church & some Irish four piece called The U-2's or something.Whatever happened to them? Now I'd see them again if they reformed.....

Did you get to see them in December of 1983 on the Synchronicity Tour? The Police toured all over the UK in December of that year, but they skipped the Newcastle area. Of course, that would have been only 17 months later and your dad probably thought you were still too young.

^ My Dad agreed that if my Uncle would take me to Birmingham NEC on that tour I was in like Flint.Guess what? My Uncle thought the tickets were to expensive at £10 a go so I never got to go then either......my Dad knew someone who worked at Deeside Leisure Centre on security for the Ghost In The Machine Tour in '81,got me a left handed Sting signature on a concert programme. Why left handed? He broke his arm filming for Brimestone & Treacle and had is roadie(Danny Quatrochie,I think) play bass on a few shows.....
