One of my biggest concert regrets (one to go into the "Who would you go back in time for" thread) is not seeing Elvis on his Chocolate Wheel tour sometime in the late 80s methinks - he had a chocolate wheel on stage and would play whatever song it landed on. Damn :mad:
 
You mean the Blood & Chocolate Tour? Yeah, saw that. I remember vaguely there being a wheel on stage, and a cage for go-go dancing. The wheel never landed on cool/obscure songs, just the ones that he'd always play. Ah, the good old days :drool:

No way! I think I'm still signed up for his e-mail list so hopefully can get in on a presale again. Elvis in a small place is so amazing.
 
I saw him at the House Of Blues a few years ago. This is the "Visa Signature Presents" series. It was great :up: I am on the House Of Blues emailing list, and I got that email today. Hubby, who's an Elvis fan, didn't even know about it. And he occasionally checks the Elvis site(s) for news of shows and stuff. So I was shocked. I will PM you the link I have bookmarked. :shh:

Elvis Costello rocks. I was aware of him but after he appeared in "De-Lovely" singing "Let's Misbehave" I began to check out his music. Then when he became a supporter of Katrina musicians I really became a fan.
He's witty, intelligent, wistful, a rocker, and an all-around cool guy.

I've played The River in Reverse until it's almost worn out. I downloaded the Marian McPartland interview on iTunes and listen to that frequently. Of course one of my fave cuts on the Tony Bennett Duets CD is with Elvis -- "Are You Having Any Fun?" I love the line, "The squirrels save and save and what do they get? Nuts!"

The one thing I don't get: Diana Krall. She, to me, is uniformly bland and soulless and being married to him hasn't helped. Totally do not understand the attraction, and yet there must be one. Because he's a Brit and she's Canadian?
 
I like his contribution to the Tony Bennett CD as well. My mom asked me to buy it for her since they don't have a Target in their area, and I agreed to on the condition that she'd let me open it and rip the Bono duet into iTunes. I ripped that song and the duet with John Legend, too.

Elvis Costello is on a very short list of performers I love who I haven't gotten to see yet. There are plenty of acts I wouldn't mind seeing, but he's a must. Also on that list is Lou Reed, plus Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams doing full sets, since I saw one on a package tour and one do a very short opening set.

I really respect his range, and he's an amazing songwriter. I need to get around to seeing De-lovely. I'm more interested in the musician cameos than I am much else, but I do like Kevin Kline most of the time, so I might enjoy it.

Shorefire Media's calendar says Elvis will be on Letterman Friday the 18th. I presume this means Friday night/Sat morning at 1230, as opposed to Thursday night/Friday morning.

This is probably going to be taped earlier that week, since Elvis is in DC on the 18th.

I think Letterman tapes 2 shows on Thursday, and airs the 2nd on Friday. Either way, something to look forward to :up:

Shame he won't be swinging by the Montreal International Jazz Festival this year. I saw him at Place des Arts last year with Allen Toussaint and they played for nearly three hours!

There were two encores, I think, and enough people left the venue after the first ended that the devotees (myself included) made it right down to the stage.
