Wow where are these great positive threads when I need them?

I have to agree and disagree with the modern rnb stuff is utter shit. You have to listen to the broader spectrum that is out there beyond the "Hot 97" list and the cringingly-annoying Toronto wannabee equivalent FLOW 93.5, that stuff is, for the most part, utter garbage.

I have to agree with Alicia, for sure. John Legend I feel has been writing great stuff, but his live performances haven't felt overly inspiring, save the awesome duets he's done.

Also...Boyz II Men - definitely. Can't agree more. I mean, it kindof goes like...The Temptations...New Edition...Boyz II Men...that's the timeline in my mind..sadly, it ends there, but if someone has a suggestion for the newest great male soul group, I'll definitely give it a fair chance..

Classic RnB? Oh man, where do you begin? Every once in a while, when life is really kicking your ass, and youre so sick of the crap that they pass off on the radio as rock, hiphop, and rnb, just break out ANYTHING from that era.

Brau two for this thread, just great...in fact, I'm getting off the computer, gonna go fire me up some Motown and start a glorious fall bbq on my deck, what a beautiful day!

I didn't care for Alicia's first album, but the one I like and own is "The Diary of Alicia Keyes." I'm curious to hear her new album, which I believe comes out soon.

As for John Legend, his first album got huge critical acclaim, but I've never heard it. I picked up his latest "Once Again" on a whim, and was surprised by how much I liked it.

Check out some songs from either album on YouTube to see if you like them.

I'm sorry but I can't say that's an intro to Lewis that does him justice...boring song, excrutiating video with 'look at me I'm Soul Man" rammed down the viewers throat. Check out live performances instead, he's definitely talented (and plays a niiiice geetar like Edge's) but that video just sucks imo.

D'Angelo is another fantastic R&B singer. I used to listen brown sugar all the time.

Only problem with D'Angelo is..well...where's the followup?

Otherwise

I really loved Jodeci too.

But K-Ci...man that dude is a mess now. Saw him in the summer and it was disgraceful, just a real shame.

What about Thriller...? Yes, I'm serious (although I couldn't agree more with Brau's angry praise for the two albums upon which the thread was initially based).

And Off The Wall, you can't forget about that one. Some incredible jams on that album.

I agree also that modern R&B is s**te. There's no originality or variety in current music in that genre.

I need to hear their covers of "A Change Is Gonna Come" now. That's one of my favorite songs of all-time.

I was listening to the Tom Joyner show on my way to Buffalo airport on Fri morning...they were live from some radio-thon or something...and this guy came on and did that, acapella. It was spine tingling, even over the radio...
