Soundtrack to your own death?

Nah, that's not right...and way too depressing.

But the question is, and it's been asked a ton of times before, but I'm really interested lately,

What one song do you want played at your own funeral?

I've been thinking about this all day, and currently I think I'd like "Do You Realize??" but I'm still deliberating.

This is a morbid question, but I love it. Do You Realize?? is a good choice, but I'd have to go with Life on Mars? by David Bowie.

The piano/organ fits perfectly and I just see everyone standing up in unison waving and singing along to the chorus, maybe a disco ball descends, I don't know, I'm not a psychic.

Life on Mars? just one of those few truly cinematic songs, I really don't know how else to describe it. It starts with a whimper, reaches a crescendo in the middle and does not let up, then finally ending on a whimper, much like life itself. Fitting.

Fine choice indeed, friend.

I'm also thinking about

Theologians - Wilco

or

The Promised Land - Brucy Bruce

Exitlude - The Killers

it could be U2's Walk On... or Kite... or WOWY...

or Nino Bravo's "Al Partir"... if you understand spanish you should REALLY listen to that.. is gorgeous (is that right spelled?)

I really think now that Exitlude could be a valid option

I wouldn't want to play anything too depressing at my funeral. I mean, everyone's already going to be crying their balls off that they'll never get to hang out with me again.

They might as well be able to dance on my grave instead....literally. Something funky.

I'd want Jupiter by Gustav Holst played at my funeral as to say that it's not the end rather the start of a new journey through the cosmos and beyond.

Oh, and while it isn't my own choice, my girl is always saying that Waits's "Anywhere I Lay My Head" will be the song of choice at her funeral. I think that that one's a pretty good call, personally.

For me, it's a song called "Uhuru" by Rachel Portman and the African Children's Choir. It's from the movie Beloved, and it's just about the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

My sister mentioned she was thinking of playing "Kite" at my funeral.

A friend of mine's choice? Paradise City by Guns N Roses. And no, I'm not kidding.

Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks at some point during the wake/celebration (my funeral is going to be spectacular )

Escape (The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes
Don't let the sun go down on me - Elton John
Closing Time - Leonard Cohen
