The Shepherd's Dog is such a great album. It would be on the very top of my list in any other year...

Extremely good lists so far, I'm impressed.

I'm going to take a few more weeks for my album choices (it's not even December yet!), but I thought I'd list my favorite EP's of the year in the mean time.

My Favorite 2007 EPs

1. Sigur Ros - 'Hvarf/Heim'
As this release by our friends from Iceland is essentially 2 separate EP with complete different packaging and covers, put together in a 2 disc set, it's hard to know how to classify it. Is it one album, 2 EPs? I don't know what it is, but I know that it's great. Hvarf is mostly made up of a new tracks, which are all surprisingly great (it's argueably more of a consistant release than their albums). Heim gives us some acoustic, if you can call them that, versions of classic SR songs. If you're a fan, this 2 disc set is a no brainer.

2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'Is Is'
Before my local Virgin Megastore closed (curses!), I was shopping there one day and they were playing this EP on the store speakers. I was one of about 5 people who walked up and asked the employees what album these tracks were on (it hadn't come out yet). This is a ridiculously solid release for an EP, each song is stellar. Even if you're not a fan, you may enjoy this (I say this because this is the one and only Yeah Yeah Yeahs release I own....and I love it).

3. Beirut - 'Lon Gisland'
Elephant Gun and the new version of Scenic World alone would have put this EP in my list, add 3 more solid tracks and you have a winner for any one who likes good music.

4. Of Montreal - 'Icons, Abstract Thee'
'Hissing Fauna' will without a doubt be in my year end albums list, and this supporting EP is almost just as consistant an EP as Fauna is an album. 'Du Og Meg' is as good a pop song, if not better, than anything on Hissing Fauna, and the closer 'No Conclusion' is nearly 10 minutes of tongue in cheek overblown modern-Blogger/emo kid-esque drama. Just try to listen to the end of 'No Conclusion' without belting out,"It's hopeless, hopeless!!!" at the top of your lungs, I promise you won't be able to resist.

5. Grizzly Bear - 'Friend'
Grizzly Bear follow up their last two albums with yet another fantastic release. The cover of the '60s pop song, 'He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)', alone makes this EP worth buying, add in some great covers of Grizzly Bear tunes performed by the likes of Band of Horses and CSS, and some fantastic new versions of old Grizzly Bear songs, and you have a winner. Believe the hype with these guys, they are most definitely the sh*t.

6. Deerhunter - 'Fluorescent Grey'
They came and hit us with a full album and an EP in a matter of months and then went on "hiatus". This EP is even more consistant in style and substance than the full length in my opinion. It brought me great pleasure to have had so many good new shoegaze/dream pop bands this year.

7. Sea Wolf - 'Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low'
Don't be surprised if you see Sea Wolf's name on a lot of "best bands you didn't hear" lists this year. The magnificent Phil Ek helped produce, record, and mix this EP as well as their full length which also came out this year, and not surprisingly it sounds wonderful. Similarly to my Yeah Yeah Yeahs story, I'm friends with a guy that works at one of my favorite local music stores, and I asked him to put this EP on the speakers so I could see what they sound like as I'd received a very high recommendation to check them out from another friend. While the first track, 'You're a Wolf', was playing, everyone (no lie) in the store walked up to the front and asked who he was playing. I've listened to this EP more than the actual full length since it's been out longer, and it's every bit as consistant. If they(he) play their business cards right, I don't doubt that this band will end up huge.

Yes.

I think it's just early. There are still albums coming out this year that I'm waiting for before i make any judgment. Give it time.

It's probably uncool because I started the thread. Sorry!
