Big Grin Obscure artists from your country who rock

I have read a few posts discussing how popular certain bands are in the other countries. I would like to hear from other members of artists who are popular in their country but relatively obscure elsewhere. I am always interested in hearing new music.

Canada

I like Matthew Good, Sarah Harmer, Teagan and Sara, and of course, the Tragically Hip. Check em out. Some good stuff here.

Agreed, but that music video is absolutely hilarious. Good times. I have no idea if they're actually listenable or not, I just know that song. Fun stuff.

canada has some great bands many people don't know about.

tegan and sara are indeed quite good, aren't they? they're really similiar to the BEATLES in a sense...where they write really short and extremely catchy pop songs.

of course, they don't have that "sound" that's need to make it onto the radio. i can't for the life of me understand how not.

other canadian bands i think highly of are already mentioned all of the time...

bss, stars, arcade fire, etc. etc. etc...

Great picks there trevster2k. I would also add Pilate to that list.
Canada is a hot bed of indie acts right now. Since I live in Canada, it's a little hard to tell who's obscure and who's not. The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Stars are pretty popular. There's also The Dears, The Stills, hayden (who's been around for a while now).
AND there are a handful of bands doing the post-punk/dance-rock/whateveryoucallit thing like Hot Hot Heat (another popular one), Controller.Controller, The Organ, and Death From Above 1979.

All said, I think Canada's lookin' pretty damn good when it comes to music!

Thanks Imjhitman for those bands you mentioned. By obscure I mean, popular in one country but pretty much unknown in the mainstream US. They are the big market everyone wants to break into.

I forgot about Hayden, I like his stuff too.

I know there is a thread discussing what everyone listens to at the moment but I am looking for bands which I have never heard of ever. There are so many members here from all around the world, there has to be some great hidden gems.

That band mentioned by u2popmofo, Dream Evil, is retro metal style from Sweden. I love that old stuff ( I used to be a metalhead and a U2 fan too.)

I will check out the bands you mentioned.

Hey! You forgot to mention Urban Dance Squad.

Claw Boys Claw is/was very good too.

And if I can include Dutch-language bands, then Doe Maar, De Dijk, Skik, Tröckener Kecks, Thé Lau and his band The Scene also deserve a mention.

Urban Dance Squad rule!
Also (totally different though) is the Nits. Great laid-back but very well written music.

I just listened to Walking with Maria by the Nits. Very soothing and relaxing sound. I like it. I will have to find more.

The Gathering is good too. I just watched their video Monsters.

You guys have great taste. I knew you would though cause you are U2 fans.

I gotta go to sleep but I will definitely check out the rest of the bands mentioned here.

Thanks folks.
