I watched Pretty in Pink on the Encore channel today and it reminded me how much I love those John Hughes' movies from the 80s - The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, etc. I guess it's partly a nostalgia thing because I was a teenager myself when they came out, but I do think they were very good teen comedies and hold up pretty well today - even if the music and the fashions date them somewhat (or a lot!)

I don't like John Hughes 80s movies.

I think they stereotype roles in high school.

I can kind of see what you mean. When I was watching Pretty in Pink today I was thinking to myself, "Sheesh, could they have made the snotty rich kids any more one-dimensional?" But on the whole I think the characters in most of the John Hughes movies had a lot more depth than a lot of teen movies.

Sixteen Candles....sucked

The Breakfast Club.....rocked

Weird Science......sucked....rocked....and sucked at the end

Ferris Bueller's Day Off...rocked and then rocked some more

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.....ditto

She's Having a Baby....never seen it

Uncle Buck......see 'Ferris Bueller'

Curly Sue.....the last film he directed, and I can see why.

I  those films, My faves are:
1. Ferris B's day off
2. P,T and A
3. Uncle Buck
I loved John Candy, I think he was a really funny guy, such a shame he's not around any more.

I was wondering about that...I was like, WTF??? :eeklaugh:
 same here!

i must be the only one who hates ferris bueller's day off. :silent:

but i like sixteen candles, the breakfast club, pretty in pink, and uncle buck. (i forgot he directed that!)

Wow, I forgot that Ferris Bueller was a John Hughes movie! I wasn't all that crazy about it either. The plot was pretty thin. Guy plays hooky from school, gets his best friend and girlfriend to go along with him, and he gets home at the end of the day without getting caught - yep, that's about it. I liked Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club much better. "Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?" - best line ever!

To borrow from DanoSpano...

Sixteen Candles....sucked...but had funny moments

The Breakfast Club.....sucked hard...worst of all his films

Weird Science......sucked....but had funny moments

Ferris Bueller's Day Off...rocked...but a bit over-rated

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.....best of the lot

She's Having a Baby....rocked for the most part...Kevin Bacon was deluxe.

Uncle Buck......second best of the lot!

Curly Sue.....cute flick... but mostly sucked
