wink Isn´t this just beautiful?

Brazil's captain Cafu holds up the trophy after defeating Germany in the World Cup final in Yokohama June 30, 2002. Brazil won a record fifth World Cup on Sunday when Ronaldo erased the memory of his 1998 final nightmare by scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Germany. REUTERS/Ian Waldie

Great Cafu...the first footballer to participate in 3 final Word Cup matches in a row. Smile Cafu, smile

And him...of course He overcame everything. He´s back. The warrior WAS hurt. But no dead.

Brazil's Ronaldo celebrates after scoring the first goal against Germany during the World Cup final in Yokohama June 30, 2002. Ronaldo later added a second goal. REUTERS/Dan Chung

And now it´s party time. Again. Lets celebrate Brazilians! Lets be in real life the way we have been in the football pitch. Winners, but more than, fighters. This is a great country. We must be proud of it. Always.

Thanks for reading. Now for the next one, Germany 2006.

You know, yesterday afternoon I spent some time listening to my Popmart São Paulo bootleg. The concert happened in January 1998, and we had another World Cup ahead that year...Ireland did not qualified for that one, as you know, so I think Bono and the boys chose Brasil to root for.

If you have that bootleg you can hear when Bono said, right before Staring At The Sun " Brasil, ganhem a Copa do Mundo para a Irlanda". He then translated it to Edge, more or less like this: "I just asked Brasil to win the World Cup for Ireland", and they both started laughing .

Well, it didn´t work at that time. But it worked now, 4 years later. I dare say that Bono and the others might be happy now. I know they are.

Sorry guys, but this thread will be my own shrine, LOL

Oh man this is great..beautifully written...

A fifth star in the land of the rising sun
by FIFAworldcup.com

THE DAY REPLAYED-Over the course of a passion-filled month, 32 nations from every corner of the globe were painfully and tearfully whittled to two towering giants, two fierce contenders. And in just 90 dramatic minutes in Yokohama, Japan, a legend was forged, and an age-old tale told, as ‘Pentacampeao’ Brazil and Ronaldo, with his velvet feet and Golden Shoe, danced off a new continent with the sun on their faces and stars in their eyes.
And as he remembered lying, crying on an operating table with blood pouring from his knee, Ronaldo fought with valour for the vindication and rebirth only a bouncing ball and a Final can offer. “My biggest victory is that I can play again,” Ronaldo told honoured guest and orthopedist Gerard Saillant in Yokohama.

And play he did, though it seemed France 98 déjà vu all over again as he missed three golden opportunities in the first 45 minutes in a ghostly reminder of football’s crueler face. Brazil poured forward in homage of their fanciful, rhythmic forbearers. But after flouting chance after chance, German efficiency and cold realism looked to be lurking with intent.

Lev Yashin Award winner, ‘keeper and captain Oliver Kahn shined like a true legend, a statue carved from the roughest stone as he put the Mannschaft on his broad shoulders one last time.

But as the woodwork played a crucial role, the cruelest of all twists and the brightest bits of lady luck’s spoils rained down on the night. As Rivaldo rifled a shot in on Kahn, the finest, seemingly infallible goalkeeper in all the land, spilled the ball right to the feet of the previously luckless Ronaldo. And in a moment, the snake-bitten striker was born again after years of pain and self-doubt…and perhaps a legend too.

The now-lordly “Phenomenon” struck again as Rivaldo dummied brilliantly leaving a simple strike for the finally blessed South American Samba king to grab his twelfth finals goal and a place among the pantheon of football’s true greats.

And with the historic victory only one star shined in the land of the rising sun as Germany kneeled to a healed Ronaldo in tears as Pele was in ’58, carried off the field shoulder-high by Cafu and his legendary team mates. With the landmark win, Brazil become the only nation to have lifted the symbol of pure victory on every continent where she traveled.

Giants never die, and myths live forever. In a tournament of upsets, flux and profound change, the mythical Brazilians danced into history yet again.

Hi follower, I came back on line because I had a great Ronaldo pic I had saved during the tournament...and now I can't find it, lost in the files ...somewhere

But I have just noticed a similarity I had not been aware of before.
This trophy means a great deal to me. Soccer came along and did such good things for my boys. 1998 was my big fellas first year back, after a long break. His school mates begged for him to come and play and I was so moved at the end of the season on presentation day. The team had made their own decision with the coach and all chipped in a few pennies and had this trophy made...for my son.
Proud mum stuff ...again,but I am more trying to express what I feel soccer can achieve at a grass roots level.
That to me is the beauty of the game, the encouragement and the friendships.

Still buzzing, what a tournament that was !!!!!
I shall be videoing the World Cup Show tonight...so i can watch the highlights when I can access a big TV. All those talented men I am just about cross-eyed after the past 4 weeks.

homen gol

And he´s also a romantic fool, LOL

I don´t think this was reported abroad, probably, but before raising the Cup above his head he shouted out loud "Regina, eu te amo!"...or Regina I love you!. That´s what he said, such lovely words...check it out if you taped it.

Oh btw, Regina is his wife who stayed home, in São Paulo.

*sigh*

It was such a fun few weeks. Still buzzing, will for quite some time
We saw footage of the plane taxi-ing in on the Sports Show Cafu and someone else where hanging out the cockpit window. So excited and happy. And on the last World Cup show seeing Ronaldinho playing drums and singing with his friends on the way out of the stadium. Such spirit, he reminds me of Malcolm, a jogador who is dear to me.

Ahh it's over....was going to say something about nets packed away...but no I'll drive thru fog and be at the field ready for a 9 am kick-off tomorrow like so many other soccer lovers or parents of soccer lovers....my o my, we need a win. Cheer for the Bears, your tomorrow night.it might help

Your story about Cafu and Regina is beautiful. I do have the tape. I will watch it. My sons love the music of Soulfly and Sepultura, but I love Max Cavelera because of what I read he said in an interview about his wife Gloria and about sharing music with kids. He seems OK.

Michael, eu te amo........I'm practicing for tomorrow. One year since U2 began their Elevation Tour of Europe
