Interference users, help!!!

Ok, here is the deal:

Between my birthday (12/6), Chanukah and Christmas, I've received approximately 300 dollars worth if Itunes gift certificates.

I have about 3,000 songs on my Ipod, so, basically, everything from the past and that's current that I want, I have.

So, this seems like a good time to try out some new stuff. Now, I'm not looking to go far off genre, my tastes are usually rock oriented, though, appreciate some classical pieces now and then, like the occasional hip hop tune, like Sarah Brightman and Alison Kraus, but, largely, rock is my thing.

Some bands I like a lot: U2, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Zeppelin, Elbow, Dredg, Who, Catherine Wheel, Beth Orton, Doves, Interpol, REM, 10,000 Maniacs, Sundays, Living Color, Guns N Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eisley, The Church, Rush, Alice in Chains, Genesis, Van Halen, Arcade Fire, Lush, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, Beatles, Springsteen, Echo & The Bunnymen, 80's music in general, Elton John, Metallica, Neko Case, etc......I think that's enough to give you an idea of my taste.....

So, my question is, based on the above, can any of you recommend some artists to me? Could be an older act you loved that was underappreciated but sort of obscure....a new act that has yet to make a name for themselves who you like a lot, etc...

I just want to check out some new stuff, and by new, I mean new to me. Heck, even if it's a popular band, maybe they put an album not many people listened to.

So, any help you could provide to me would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Radiohead are on my original list of artists I like.....

I LOVE The Soft Bulletin, great album....All Mod Cons, though, do not own that and I like a few Jam songs, so, will add that to the list, thanks!!! wow, Race for the Prize just came onto my Ipod, wow, good timing. Not familiar with the La's either, so, thanks.

I'm a big fan of The Stone Roses, too, wish they could have kept their act together, would have been interesting to see how good they might have gotten.

Martha, thanks for the Wolfmother suggestion, I have them on my Ipod and love the first few songs....sorry if people are mentioning acts I already am familiar with, I could not possibly list every band I like, but, there are already some good suggestions in the thread, so, keep it up, people!

Thanks!!!!

Mia, thanks, only have heard of Guster, so, perfect! I own you one. One what? No idea.

By the way, of all the avatars and signatures floating around interfernce, your Oh, Snap, as well as that photo of Bono with the "Oh Shit, Son" is easily my favorite.

Check out Porcupine Tree. I recommend songs such as Piano Lessons, Trains, The Rest Will Flow, and Lazarus, or if you want a whole album, Stupid Dream.

Also, if you don't mind longer songs, given Spock's Beard a go. I'm only familiar with the Day For Night and Beware Of Darkness albums, but they're fantastic. A shorter number I highly recommend is Skin. As far as longer songs go, look out for The Doorway and Walking On The Wind.

"Who buys U2 records anyway? It's just music for plumbers and bricklayers. Bono, what a slob. You'd think with all that climbing about he does, he'd look real fit and that. But he's real fat, y'know. Reminds me of a soddin' mountain goat."
"And as for Bono, he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth."

IF you haven't heard Kasabian yet, be prepared to be blown away. They're that good! Get both of their albums.

Muse is awesome and fits well with the style of music you like. Their latest album, "Black Holes and Revelations", is fantastic but took me a few listens to appreciate it. Absolution is simply amazing.

Stars might be a stretch for you as they have a softer indie feel.

MuthMath has had a great debut album.
