By no means are they new, and I know that many on this board are quite into what they have to offer... one of their more notable side-projects being Silver Mount Zion. I thoroughly enjoy the band for their relentless symphonic compositions, ranging from building violins and guitars to ambient, diffuse sounds.
Instrumentals are Godspeed's strong suit, so they definitely do not cater to the 3-minute short and sweet tastes. But if you're looking for achingly sweet pieces (usually comprised of multiple songs), I think you'll dig their material. My favourites of the moment:
9-15-00 (Yanqui U.X.O)
Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls (Yanqui U.X.O)
Storm (Lift yr. skinny fists like Antennas to Heaven!)
Sleep (Lift yr. skinny fists like Antennas to Heaven!)
Unfortunately, they're on a bit of a hiatus at the moment, but their music can be found in different bands out there. The Album Leaf creates similar melodies, but they are more on the emotional side, rather than on the subversive political pedestal.
Anyone else a fan of Godspeed or their contemporaries?
