I know Sufjan is a Christian, although he's not a "Christian artist, if you know what I mean. He writes about his faith, but you won't find him in a Christian book store.
"For the Widows" is one of my favorite songs. It's very moving on many levels. On one hand, I think it's about unconditional love. Of course, in its purest form, this comes from God. That's what Grace is. Part of this seems like Christ knowing he has to die to cover our sins:

"I'll do anything for you. I did everything for you."
I don't mean to get overly spiritual on you, but I know that's where a lot of Sufjan's work comes from.
