This looks like an Oscar Contender. Looks Awesome too. I love Cate Blanchett she is a wonderful actress.

Rent the first one, seriously, it is a really good movie and totally deserving of the Oscar IMO...

Did anyone see it? The reviews I have read indicate that it's like a romance novel bodice ripping joke

My best friend told me not to go see it because it's total cheese. I am sad.

I think I might have to see it anyway, or maybe wait for the DVD

Even if it's atrocious, at least there's some Clive Owen bodice ripping type action

But the first one was so good, why does that have to happen? From what I have read it's apparently the director's fault.

I was really surprised after all the great early buzz that the reviews came crashing down.

Honestly, they're a little harsh. It's no masterpiece, and quite uneven but there are great things about it, the acting particualrly from the returning duo of Rush and Blanchett is top notch (big surprise) the costume design, art direction and cinematography are quite good as well, and while historically all over the place that battle scenes were well done. The score was an issue, as it fluctuated between all different styles and levels of being excellent and complimentary (the violins during the battle), and obnoxious. The film's major problem is that it lacks the exciting and well paced political plot of the first, and instead of balancing personal lives and political struggle like the first did, this panders a bit much with soapy relationships, whereas the other aspects of the film are done well. Overall its worth watching, if a little less well constructed than the original.

Also, Samantha Morton (who I'd forgotten was in this) gives a great performance as Mary Stuart in a small role.

I want to see this movie so very bad. With my luck of movies coming to my town, it probably won't come here, so I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD at Blockbuster's

I know it is getting bad reviews, but I will probably see it anyway. Cate Blanchett is one of my favorite actresses ever and I'm a sucker for costume dramas, cheesy or not.
