Casino Royale...the new James Bond movie

It's not out in Australia yet but I've seen the trailer today and I'm interested. Even though "Goldeneye" was pretty much the only Bond film I've really enjoyed.

And on a totally girly note, Daniel Craig looks really good too, :sexywink: Even though he's not tall enough and blond men usually do nothing for me.

I read this on people.com

My editorial comment-don't wear those unless you have a body that is as good as Daniel's

For male James Bond fans, Daniel Craig's homage to Ursula Andress's infamous bikini scene may have been a little disappointing (especially in comparison to Halle Berry's take), but not so for his female fans! In fact, ladies have been quick to snap up Craig's snug swim trunks for the Bonds in their lives. Part of the Grigio Perla men's range of celeb-favorite Italian brand La Perla, the trunks have proved to be so popular that UK department store Selfridges' quickly sold out the coveted item shortly after Casino Royale's release. Reportedly, Craig picked out the trunks for the film himself -- get your own pair for $87 by calling 1-866-LAPERLA (six-pack abs not included).

Just in case anyone has forgotten what they look like..

I checked out that People magazine article on Mads...it was really good but not worth buying the whole magazine (with Tomkat on the cover :yuck: ) for that one page.

Poor Daniel Craig when Mads accidentally hit him too hard in the torture scene :yikes::giggle:

so is it safe to assume that you're perhaps a mild fan of the film and it's cast?

(only a mild fan, though).

;)

I'm a :nerd: over the whole Bond franchise, I've seen every movie at least once, and this latest film has just heightened my love for it all

Daniel's getting some Oscar buzz, which I think he deserves

This column epitomizes my thoughts:
http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_popmachine/2006/12/bond_oscar_bond.html
Bond, Oscar Bond
There’s one performance that hasn't been recognized by any movie critics group or awards organization despite being one of the year’s most widely praised.

Where’s the year-end love for Daniel Craig, a.k.a. agent 007 in “Casino Royale”?

Here’s a guy who was widely dismissed and even ridiculed upon being cast in this iconic role, yet the consensus is he’s the best James Bond since Sean Connery and perhaps the closest one to author Ian Fleming’s original vision.

Craig’s performance is emotional, physical and charismatic as hell; you can't ask much more of an actor. His burning presence has helped the movie earn 95 percent positive reviews (according to RottenTomatoes.com) while grossing more than $400 million worldwide and reviving a stale series.

Who could you imagine doing better? Oscar winners Sean Penn or Russell Crowe? Right.

Just because Craig isn’t in a self-serious film doesn’t mean he hasn’t done a slam-bang acting job. Give the guy some kudos.

The comments left regarding the column were all in agreement as well

:flirt:

holy shitoli...

....haha, love the url properties desciption: assets/images... yeah,no kidding.

what was i going to say? the movie was much more physical and violent than others. more hollywood. bond is not usually so bloody in his fights. there was a distinct lack of Q, and i though M was too emotional and involved. him also falling in love was out of the norm. those were my two biggest beefs.

"god, i miss the cold war!"

minus the two issues, i did enjoy it a lot, though. overall, it was less connected to other bonds; more of a unique bond movie. i shall buy it and add it to the collection.

I saw it last night.

and I give it a big

I thought Pierce Brosnan was a great Bond at the time, but now looking back, Brosnan looks really cheesy in comparison. Of course, Daniel Craig with not many clothes on may have influenced my opinion. Only a weeny bit, mind :shifty:

I guess it's just not the sort of role/movie that attracts Oscar buzz no matter how good the performance is. Genre films overall rarely get nods for acting - Johnny Depp's nomination for Pirates of Caribbean was an anomaly more than anything else.

But I definitely agree, Daniel has done an awesome job in Casino Royale, And he actually made me like Bond as a character - which is something I've never felt before and which is partly why the franchise as a whole has never really been my cup of tea. Even Goldeneye I liked more for the supporting characters (especially Sean Bean and Famke Jannsen) whereas Bond, for all of Brosnan's charm, to me felt like big blank space with nothing going on beyond the surface. Whereas Daniel Craig's Bond was IMO absolutely the best thing about the film and someone I was 100% invested in. He's tougher and more ferocious than any other Bond besides Connery yet curiously enough he also comes off as an underdog. And I've always had a huge soft spot for underdogs - as opposed to smug smooth upper-class superspies.

Come to think of it, the whole story of Daniel Craig being cast as Bond is a GREAT underdog story, too.

Cassino Royale kicks all asses around

Would love to see those bastards fuckin Daniel around before the release

And the fact the film has made already more than that Superman

The movie is worth it for the final scene alone. The audience I saw it with cheered and applauded at the last line of the film.

I'm looking forward to the introduction of Q and how they continue this film's plot points in the next few films with Craig.

I was watching the Connery films on Spike TV this weekend, and they made me realize how cheesy the Pierce era really was.

Hollywood has bought the rights to the Russian spy's book (the guy who was poisoned) and Daniel Craig is tipped to play him. I hope he does, I've said from the beginning that the spy's story would make an excellent thriller novel/movie.

I think this was the best films of the year. Well written, well acted, nicely paced. Minor miracle that they let the card playing scene last so long in this age of short attention spans.

Craig's a real actor with gravity to him. I like Brosnan a lot, but, to me, he was too effete for the Bond role. I, like Canadiens 1160 look forward to the introduction of Q and I look forward to watching the character pick up from where he left off in that very cool last scene.

I got the 3rd and 4th volume of the Bond collcetor set as one of my holiday gifts, and I immediately watched from Russia with Love. That's still my favorite Bond film, great stuff.

If they do introduce Q, I hope that it will be complete reinvention much like Bond himself, and that the gadgets won't be silly *mumblemumble*invisiblecar*mumblemumble*.

I saw it again yesterday afternoon since my dad hadn't seen it yet.

Let's just say the ass kickery holds up upon a second viewing.

Nice film. A couple of scenes were too lovey dovey at the end. They tried to make the poker seem realistic, but no one wore shades or hats like in real life! But that would've ruined the premise a bit.

Just came back from the cinema.

spoiler

 Sorf of Batman begins reinvention for Bond, and closer to something like the Bourne spy flicks than the usual gadgety Bond (not even the nifty watch Connery had) or M:I movies. The poker scenes were a bit long. Good dialogue between Bond and Vesper Lyndt. (why did she lock herself up in the end again? the MI6 surely could have protected her)

How was Craig? It's only his first movie but I dare say he's better than Moore or Brosnan (and I loved both of them), and time will tell if he can surpass Connery. He had me right from the opening scene and his strengths are the fight/action scenes and giving depth to the character. The only comment I'd have that in the typical casino/elegant slick womaniser Bond scenes I prefer Brosnan or Moore, I think he has space there to improve. The last scene is great too. (and no, I wasn't swooning at the sight of Craig or the swimsuit scenes)

And why not? The man is a beautiful example of the male human form......his arse......i love his arse....mmmmmm!

Top movie......left thinking i will never buy an Aston Martin.....since the airbags did not deploy when Bond crashed it....safety is everything, is'nt it:shrug:

10/10!

 He just didn't do it for me in that department. And if having a muscular/trained body would be all it takes to be a Bond, let's hire Arnold Schwarzenegger the next time.

So I know I'm late to the game on this one (there are only like 3 showings of this movie left in all of Washington, DC), but I just saw Bond this weekend..............and I have to say, "Kick-ass movie!!"
