This year is going to be one of the biggest ever at the box office, with many blockbuster films released. The current top 10 all time box office hits looks like this..

01. Titanic - $1.845 billion
02. L.O.T.R. Return Of The King - $1.119
03. Pirates 2 - $1.066
04. Harry Potter, Sorcerers Stone - $976 million
05. L.O.T.R. The Two Towers - $926
06. Star Wars 1 The Phantom Menace - $924
07. Shrek 2 - $921
08. Jurassic Park - $915
09. Harry Potter, Goblet Of Fire - $892
10. Harry Potter, Chamber Of Secrets - $877

With 3rd Pirates, Spiderman, Shrek, Bourne, films coming, another Harry Potter film, The Simpsons, which films do you think will break into the all time top 10, which films will do the most business at the box office.

I'm going for the 3rd Pirates film to be The BIGGEST of the summer, probably out performing last years Dead Mans Chest, & maybe even reaching 2nd place in the all time top 10,

My top films this year with approx takings

01. Pirates 3 $1.200 billion
02. Harry Potter $1.000
03. Spiderman 3 $950 million
04. Shrek 3 $940
05. The Simpsons $750
06. The Bourne Ultimatum $500

Others;
Transformers, FF2 - Both around $3-400
No doubt there'll be other big box office hits that I've either overlooked, or aren't on any release schedules I've seen yet.

whats ya source for this ?

The current top 10 grossers he's posted is correct.
But if you ajust those figures for inflation, ''Gone With the Wind'' is the highest grossing film of all time.

As for this year i think Pirates 3 will be the yop film year. Its possible that it will pass LOTRs gross.

That number might be a bit high for Bourne, but it's not out of the question. Remember, he's going by worldwide figures here, not just domestic. The Bourne Supremacy did almost $300 million and it's been a few years now, so adjust for inflation and the fact that the series is very popular, and it could be possible.

Although $400 million is probably a better target.

I honestly don't see Pirates 3 doing as well because think the bloom is off of that rose. Bourne 3 will be lucky to break 100 million. Shrek 3, Spidey 3, Harry 5 and The Simpsons should be big box office draws, but I don't see any of them doing 500 million.
Hollywood would love your projections, though, Jmmmm.

Transformers really could become one of the most successfull films this year.
I hope Sin City 2 makes a good income and I really wish that Cameron is defeating himself in 2009 with Avatar. And that he open the gate to a new age of cinema- the 3D - Time. - and U2 are with it.

He's talking worldwide grosses, not domestic. Bourne 2 did almost $300 million worldwide and something like $150 million domestically, so Bourne 3 will easily do the same.

I could see this happening. May alone is going to be outstanding.

Don't forget the few in November/December that really take it (like Casino Royale, Night at the Museum..."

Adjusted for inflation it's about $330 million. :)

It will be interesting to see whether all the sequels will be attracting so many customers.
And I'm curious about The Simpsons and how many people will be interested enough to go to the cinemas for that, besides the fans of course.

And if at the end of the year U2 live in Sao Paolo isn't at the top of this rating, I will be very much disappointed!

I don't see Pirates being THAT successful honestly. I think a lot of people were disappointed with Dead Man's Chest. I know I hated it. I mean, I wasn't in love with the first film, but I still paid to see it in theaters. Then Dead Man's Chest came out, and it was pretty poo-y. I'm sure Pirates 3 is going to still make a killing at the BO, but I don't see it breaking the top 10 at all.

Spiderman 3 is going to be the biggest film of the year, at least domestically.

Well, considering the amount of negative reviews its recieved, especially here on interference, Ghost Rider has had a fantastic opening week at the box office, in the US alone it has taken a massive $59 million, around the world, & its still to open in major European markets such as the UK, Germany, Italy, & france, & its already taken a further $17 million, an opening week total of $76million, although I doubt this will be 1 of the years BIG box office hits, its still not a bad start, & should be heading for a total in excess of $200 million.

i think simpsons will flop, the film should of been released 10 years ago.

Ghost Rider stayed top in the US for 2nd week, and around the world, still to open in the UK, total so far, $120 million.

Add to this list Wild Hogs, saw the trailer for it when we went to see Ghost Rider, it looks really funny, see its already been released in the US, anyone over there seen it, what's it like, is it as good all the way through, or are all the good bits in the trailer?

Unlikely to break any all time records but Ghost Rider is the years top box office hit so far, having taken $199 million so far, don't think it'll be before 300 surpasses that mark though, its already taken $173 million, & has still to open in many major markets.

Ghost Rider has broken into the top 300 films of all time at # 297, with total gross of $209mill. so far, but has been left in the wake of the biggest box office hit of the year so 300, which has soared into the top 300 at #210, taking an incredible $259mill. in just over 3 weeks

You're talking about worldwide grosses, not domestic. Plus, adjust for inflation and it's not even close.
